I think children are alot smarter then we let on.... It was so funny I would read to my son a book he just loved and I would try to skip over things to get him to go to sleep and he would catch me.... He had actually memorized the book..... He knew everything that was supposed to happen and when.... The funny part about it was the book contained 4 different stories in it and he knew them all.... He was only 4 1/2 at that time.... Children learn what we teach them.... If we are reading and doing that all the time instead of other things then that is what they will learn..... I guess it is like teaching to potty train..... Same concept.

It is a fact that most children before four, can not read phonetically. That means they can not actually sound out a word, but can obviously memorize words that are shoved in front of their faces hundreds times a day. There are a very small percent, very small, that actually learn to read phonetically before age four.

Hi..I have read that hearing is one of basic that God has given to baby when they birth. So,there is some phase and methode to us to teach them reading.Since they was born, they can hear every word we say.Their brain will save it.When they can speak, they will use the words.for example At early age, they have good memorize. So,they can memorize when we show them same alphabet or word everyday by flash card.

Yes, but they did not read the word, they remembered what they heard. It is not the same thing.

I think it is a good thing but only in small doses, I think kids should be able to enjoy a fun time in their childhood as time goes so quickly and this is where kids learn not only the academic things but the values of life and happiness....

I have taught 3 children to read before age 4. It begins when they are babies. I sang songs to them about their name and spelled it out. I taught them the letters in their name first. Once they realized that letters make words it took off from there. When I was potty training the first one, a boy, we had him sit towards the lid of the toilet. It had ABS stickers. So he learned while hew as going. (Guests thought it was weird....Stickers are now gone) All three are off the chart for reading in school.

Do not underestimate the learning capability of small kids. I've read from somewhere that a young brain can absorb far more knowledge than adults, just like a sponge can absorb lots of water. I started to train my kids at the age of 3, on phonics and alphabets. With so many colorful posters pasted on my walls, my kids were able to recognize all the alphabets in no time. Presently, at the age of 4, they are already able to recognize words and simple phrases. They can read simple story books now. This should prepare them well for their future education.

My mom taught me to read when I was 3. She made learning my letters fun for me so I would want to read. That was 21 years ago. As a result, I have fallen in love with reading and writing. I want to write all the time, and read when I'm not writing. You can teach kids to read by making the lesson into a game. That's what my mom did for me.
