Does anybody REALLY make any money from google ads?

I'm not talking about the risky trafficking to the site and clicking the ads deals, I'm talking about real websites that have good content. Is there any point of putting ads on the pages? Does anybody really click the ads? It just seems to me that unless you had thousands of visitors per day and a few accidentally clicked the ads, that you would make more than a few cents per day from AdSense.
