It's Friday night. Many years ago for me, I used to watch horror movies on Friday nights and weekends. It started in the middle sixties when, while in grade school, a friend named Ronnie hipped me to a show that came on every Friday night. After coming home from the high school football games, I'd watch Shock Theater with its host Ghoulardi. He showed monster movies. At first, he was scary with special effects. Then I started noticing that he was funny. I first saw the movie King Kong on his show. During the show Ghoulardi would use special effects to make him appear like he was in the movie. I remember the scene where the ship's crew was running through the forest searching for King Kong and Fay Wray. All of a sudden Ghoulardi got on the screen, ran to one end, and said, "She's over here," then ran to the other end and said, "no, she's over here." He was quite a character who blew up things, made fun of a local commentator, and played cool jazz music. He also played the song Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow while showing an old toothless man chewing something.
As I got older, I enjoyed many other television hosts. I faintly remember seeing Vampira. I've also seen the Ghoul, Elvira of Movie Macabre, Sir Graves of Sir Graves Ghastly, Superhost of Saturday Mad Theater, Chilly Billy of Chiller Theater, Big Chuck and Hoolihan/Little John, and Commander USA while I lived in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. My most favorite of all was Ghoulardi. Who was your most favorite horror movie host? I'd be interested to see if people of other countries had horror movie hosts on television.

yes he was but the shows that followed were usually good. Did you notice watching them that there was actually really famous actors and actresses that stared on there.

Back in the 60's and 70's, favorite horror show host was "Ghoulardi". He was my absolute favorite, as well as my friends fave back then. Gosh, it was fun reading your post, and I remember everything you mentioned. Lol, I think I drove my Dad nuts with Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow-Mow. I figured you must have lived in Ohio with the mention of Big Chuck and Little John (and who can ever forget Hoolihan!) I got to meet Little John once when my kids were little, I think it was at the home and flower show, or maybe the car show? Anyways, one of our little towns was having an ox-roast and he was on a float and waved. Imagine my surprise when he remembered me from the show and came over to yak for a while. He was really a cool guy lol.
Elvira, forgot about her! Geez, I miss her show too. Too bad they don't have this kind of stuff anymore, I'd much rather watch that kind of stuff than these reality shows we're bombarded with!! It will be interesting to keep reading this discussion to see what other's get mentioned that I forgot about. (Havin' a crs moment here...can't remember * haha)

Thanks JoyfulOne for responding. LOL Those are great memories Ghoulardi left us with. I've been hoping someone had a film of that King Kong movie. That was a classic with him fooling around like that. Yes, Cedar Point was my stomping grounds. Big Bad Blue Streaks. Yeah, Hoolihan was quite a character. You met Little John. I can understand the feeling and since he remembered you. While working at Cedar Point I saw Big Chuck and Little John at a stand eating Kielbasi. I was tempted to go up to them.
I don't have a television. I watch some movies on Justin.tv. It's nice seeing someone else who watched Ghoulardi. Boy was Elvira sexy. LOL It will be interesting to see what others say.
