I have been to my grandparent's house in Davao City Philippines before and they had this big durian tree at the back of their house. Its a round fruit with spikes all over the body. It's like a big sea urchin. It has a strong pungent smell but when you taste it, it is very delicious. When I first tasted it, I did not like its odor but it was indeed very sweet and delicious. Now, every time I see it on Philippine websites, I feel like eating it. Unfortunately it is very rare to see it here in Japan. People in Davao often describe durian as the king of all fruits. The one who smells like hell but tastes like heaven.
Does anyone here in mylot have eaten durian? What can you say about the fruit?
Have a nice day everyone!

Durian is the native fruits of Indonesia, Malaysia and Brunei.
The words is actually stating that it is the fruits full of spikes (duri)
yep. it is very delicious. People are starting to make pancakes out of it. In Medan - Indonesia, we have Durian sold almost in any corner along the street all year round.
Please be noted that you will have bad mouth smell after you eat it and there is myth said that you should drink water from its shell to clean the bad smell faster. ^^

the durian pancake is so nice. You should try when you are visiting Medan, Indonesia. I believe the pancakes are everywhere but i just don't know the place.^^
i dun know really about the myth, though. never tried that since i seldom eat durian. I will just get a sore throat after eating durian (mostly).

I ate this exactly once in my life and unless I'm starving there will not be a second. It tastes and smells like what I imagine human feet would taste like. The one time I did eat it, I was in Japan and it would be rude not to.

I've never eaten a stinky fruit before. To be honest, I never knew such a thing existed. Seems impossible to me. The smell should play a role into how it tastes. I guess you can't judge a book by it's cover, or even the smelly glue that holds it together. I had a friend he had hygiene problems, but was a really cool person to be a round and hang out with. Maybe that fruit is a lot like this childhood companion?

Yepp I did, it was a joke at first because
first time to eat and taste it dont understand
the taste. Thinking of something and I dont like
the smell and it so weird. When my partner always
showing me that he eats a lot of it I envy him.
So nice to look at him , my mouth is watering.
So I decided to taste it lightly and little by little.
Until then that I learned to eat it and love the fruit.
So yummy when you like it and full of vitamins.
It's good for pregnant women .
Now I really like to eat durian fruit, so expensive one.

I'm from davao, philippines and the most famous and abundant fruit here is the durian. They say "Smells like Hell but Tastes like Heaven", yes its true. I love the taste, some people they make cake, pastries, ice creams and other delicacies out of durian. My favorite is Durian Shake, it is kinda sweet. My grandfather usually put durian meat into his coffee every morning.

Yeah I've eaten durian many times before. It smelled funky when I was a kid but now I'm addicted to it. Too bad theres not a lot of markets that sell durian in my area.

I live in Canada and Durian does not grow here, however it is readily available in cities where there is a China town. I also read that in some countries motel owners have forbidden their customers to bring this fruit into a room.
To me the smell is very distasteful. It smells like an open latrine or sewer. I have tasted durian pie from a raw food restaurant. I liked the colour, it was a beautiful yellow like custard, it tasted o.k. to me but I could not get over the smell. I don't think I would eat it again.

I came to know about Durian fruit in mylot only. Our Malasian friend Ikbooi started a discussion on Durian and she only told about the fruit and even sent the image. From then on I am craving to eat that fruit. But I did not get it in my place.
