My habit is that before respond I always indicate I come from China.
I love Dota. And its edition is 6.66 now.I ever became computer addicts because of Dota. But now I rarely play it if no friends accompany me.
This game is 5V5.Maybe 45 minutes a bout.Cooperating friends to defeat enemy will give me lots of excitement.
Did you use a software named QQ?Most Chinese use this connect friend.

Hello. I used to play DOTA during college days. A lot. But one of the biggest reasons why I would play it was that I always played it with my friends from the varsity I belonged in. After varsity time, our team would have dinner and then play 5vs5, yes, we managed to complete it. That's when it's fun, when you're playing as a team. As a girl, I enjoyed playing because my team mates weren't serious dota players although they were good. They're not like other boys that when you mess up, they start cussing like there's no tomorrow. With my friends, it's like we were just teaming up against each other trying to outwit each other. You guys could help each other in building items and strategizing on how to defeat the other team. And then, when the game's done, you talk about what happened. Laugh about mishaps or stupid mistakes or slow reaction time or exchange dota tips.
On the other hand, I think it's addicting to most boys because, well, they're boys. It's like DOTA became the outlet for the male ego. Instead of brawling it out on the streets, they could just play DOTA and see who's better amongst them. I heard from a guy that computer games feed this certain part of the male psyche which is their need to be able to accomplish something. You see, when you have so many kills or like they say, you become godlike or beyond godlike, it's like the guys feel some sort of accomplishment. Or like in other computer games, when your character gets this rich or this character gets to a certain level, you feel some sort of accomplishment.
Haha. so yeah, that's my LONG female opinion on DOTA.
