There's no clear definition of god besides "creator of the universe" and that leaves a lot of space for imagination.
That's why the god is very subjective thing and everyone has different image of it and experience it in a different way.
So tell me about your god.
Is it a bearded old guy or some kind of spirit, energy or force? Is it taken/inspired from some religion? Does it listen to your prayers? Is it just silent watcher or is it involved in our lives? Does it have plans for you?
When I think of god I see thousands of different possibilities and I don't have a general idea of it. What about you?

Its a very difficult question.
it has many answers and no answers too.
it can assumptions only. what i have i can share with you. I am a hindu. where number of gods are in millions and we have great faith in them.
i think this is a system of religion to prevent a man to do bad things. They are told for these super powers and they are then a bit reluctant of doing sins.
so the defintion of god is the thing which wants us to be on right path only

"When I think of god I see thousands of different possibilities and I don't have a general idea of it."-why does God have to be limited to one definition? Ever read nag hummadi? "Split a piece of wood and I am there", maybe God is the substance of our reality as we know it, energy, spirit, life etc. The more you read about God in the bible the more you come to realize that he isn't a man sitting on a throne pointing a finger accusingly at humanity. Jesus said God is a spirit, the book of revelations described a being beyond human comprehension sitting on the throne.

I didn't limit anything. One of those thousands possibilities was that god is (in) everything. That's one of the most common concepts of god.

Not only did God create the universe, but he made everything in it. He created man in His own image. The bible instructs us to be holy because God is holy. We are told that we have not because we ask not. Doesn't that sound like God hears our prayers?

Nature is our God. In Hinduism, the Nature that helps human being to survive is named differently and we pray. Hinduism can not be narrowed down to religion, it is the way of life.By practice, by thinking, by deeds, we got to be good in all respects. This has been misunderstood by many and they behave differently. Also, when we have sixth sense, one sense more than animals, and so certainly there will be power more than sixth sense to rule over us and we name as God.

Well, to begin with, He who created the universe and all that is within it, 'is' the supreme God, and as His Son Jesus Christ taught, you can and will fine the truth, if you truely are seeking the truth and not comparing religious beliefs, for God and Jesus are not religions.
As there is a Lord, then there is also a "Lord of Lords." So that speaks to me as the one who is the true God. (over all other gods) The Bible says that at the end of all things, EVERY knee shall bow, and every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ 'is' the Lord.
The following are just some statements to think about:
Jesus Christ forgives sin and gives one a brand new start in life. I know of no other spiritual leader that can make that statement and prove it like Jesus has, and has given His (sinless) life and blood to make it available.
Jesus teaches forgiveness and love and grace (undeserved favor) to all humanity who accept Him.
He and His sayings become so much more real and understood, when He is invited into the heart (eternal spirit) of humanity. A new process then begins, called the 'new birth.' As one follows on into a genuine trusting relationship with Jesus, He begins to reveal by His Spirit, to your own spirit, more about Him and God the Father.
The natural mind cannot receive the things of God, because as Paul the Apostle said: the mind is spiritually discerned (disconnected) from the realm of the Spirit of God. As a matter of fact in that same area of the scripture, Paul said that the human mind is at "war" with God.
Many more things could be said, but I think this is enough for now. If you're interested in a more in depth discussion you can invite me into your circle of friends, and we can P.M. about it, and no, I am not interested in "converting you." All I can share with you is what has come into my life through my relationship with Jesus Christ.
I hope you find the answer to your question, and may the peace of the Lord be with you.

Hi Bionicman, A very good discussion by the way, and I'd love to see you getting lots of responses. My God certainly isn't a bearded old man in the sky who keeps a record of evethything that we do. I'm not sure that it's possible to describe God in mere words, in fact I feel certain that it isn't. I think we sometimes see God in other people, but also in other creatures and in nature.A small child before it learns the ways of men and women, before it has been taught fear and made to feel guilt or hatred could be one example. The chirping birds that sometimes greet us at the beginning of a new day, even a flower reaching up to wards the sunlight can all be examples of God for me. My God lives within all of us, in every living creature, in one sentence, God is all that is. As for prayer, I think that life itself is prayer and we are praying all the time. Does God answer prayer? I believe that people get answers to prayer every day and many don't know it, in fact often they don't even know that they have prayed because they think of prayer as something completely separate from living. Blessings.

Having grown up Christian the God that I see is the bearded one with a flowing white beard. His son Jesus is also bearded but I think those images are taken from the times that they were captured that way. He is a holy spirit that listens to me and requests that I talk with him and listen to his direction. I would never serve a statue because it has no substance.

My God is a loving father who provides for me what I need. He comforts me when I need comforting. He encourages me when I need encouraging. He scolds me when I need scolding. He loves me so much that He would, and did give His son Jesus to die for me; but thank God, he arose from the grave and is coming again to take those of us who have accepted this gift home with him.

God is not a physical being. There are too many disadvantages being physical that God could never be God. God is a Spiritual Being. We are made in His image. We are spiritual beings in our true natures. If you were to contact God, the first thing He will do is to work on your narrow thinking. All mankind are narrow minded. God has great intellect. He is very very smart. That is why so few really understand Him. Simple answers never tell the entire story.God is Unconditional Love. God is never one to be feared as man wants you to believe. Is God involved in our lives??? Never doubt that. Even those who do not believe have God in their lives. Believing has never been important to God. Life is the education of God's children.

My God, rather the Godhead- Brahman is vast, infinite and beyond a definition. Yet, some major definitions, as shown below may apply to it:
Brahman is of the nature of truth, knowledge and infinity. It is Pure Consciousness, Pure Awareness!
The Brahman is described as "Neti, neti" (not this, not that) in the scriptures which implies that the absolute nature of the Brahman is ineffable and beyond dualities, attributes as well as non-attributes, personality and impersonality, mutability as well as immutability, comparisons, words and mental conjectures.
Simply put, the Brahman is in its essence Absolute Awareness that cannot be described but has to be directly experienced in the Yoga in varying stages and degrees.
I know that the above definitions aren't very precise or convincing, but well, that's how it is!
In any case I am yet to ascertain that this type of God really exists. I haven't experienced it as yet and if as the scriptures say, reincarnation is a fact, I'd do that in future lives. Hence, it's just that I FEEL that such a God is the reality, as, also the personal 'Creator God' concept is a clear no-no for me personally. It hardly makes any sense to me, quite frankly.

My God, is a being, whom has thousands of distinct forms, each with a seperate personality and concioussness. These beings evolved from a single being, who is infinite. This is the creator of the universe. He did not come into existance. He has always existed. We don't know what that means, but we have faith.

Dear friend,
I could know that God is everywhere especailly in all good things and positive things. God is light the power that spreads everywhere. Moreover I do not own God, but I do those God wants me to do, may be at times I do sin too. Still my God I hope is God for all. I hope God is only one that make us all be here. May be God has lots of things to show us. May be if one go the right path one could know what is God.
