For those who don't know what The Secret is it's a small book the outlines the law of attraction. My new insight comes after reading several articles that say this is a scam and won't work. I think they missed the whole idea. The first thing most do wrong is list things they don't have and want. This just sets you up for failure. Your mind is a sneaky thing, if you say I want enough to eat, the mind
reads this as I don't have enough to eat and I'm doing OK. To get your wish you must be willing to picture in your mind serious eating of food. You live your life as thought you already have your goal, In your mind ofcourse. You set up a vision board to remind you to continue to keep this picture in the front of your mind. This must become a passion, all else in your life must take second seat to this mind set. Now the fact is that there are just not many of us that are able and willing to put the rest of our lives on hold to obtain a goal. (I used food as an example because everyone can picture food easily.)
The result is that this fails for most of us not because it doesn't work but because we are not willing to do what it takes. I am sure each of you has experienced knowing someone who was able to obtain their goals by having
the necessary passion, I have and I would not have changed lives with them after seeing what they went through to obtain their goals. They often were not very happy people, even if their goals were spiritual. What happened was their goal
invaded their intire lives and nothing else was possible. So to me this pointed out the fact that something else was missing in their lives. I'm still working on that one, anyone have any answers?

It didn't really wiork like that for me. I am now living my dream of having a house near enough to walk to the sea, after spending a number of years dreaming about it and planning it, but carrying on with my life and having wonderful interludes from time to time. On second thoughts perhaps that's why it took so long.
The stumbling block was that I was only ready to put my previous house on the market in May 2007, just before the bottom dropped out of the market. First I had to wait to get my pension and take the lump sum that would enable me to top up the cash from the sale and buy in this more expensive area. Of course it took 2 years to sell that house and find another to buy. But I never stopped believing it would happen and dreaming about my new life. I even wrote about it in my blog and made it public.
So I have great faith in the law of attraction.

I just have to say that I love the sea and I think it would be incredible to be able to walk to the sea from my home. I am very excited for my vactation in April when i will stay in a condo on the beach in South Carolina.
I can't imagine LIVING by it, lucky you. where are you from?

Hope you enjoy your vacation, Allie. Of course, here in the UK noone is too far away to be able to get to the sea in a day, so we are luckier than many in the US. I now live on Poole harbour, which is said to be the second largest natural harbour in the world, after Sydney, Australia.

I just think that anything that encourages empowerment and positive thinking isn't a "scam" When people read books and or learn something new, they take from it what they find relevant and leave the rest.
If somebody finds relevace in thinking happy thoughts until something happens than all the more power to them in my mind.

Yes it works, and it has worked for me! This is how it went - Some years ago when 4 wheel-drive tractors were a new idea, a machine dealer close to our farm had one on his lot. Every time we drove by that lot I'd say, " there's our tractor!" at first it was just something to say (because this machine was a big investment) no other farmers in the area had one, and I wasn't exactly loaded with money! Time went by, One year, Two years and the tractor was still there waiting patiently for me, By the third year I knew That Tractor was mine but still had no idea how it would happen. Then my hay mower broke, and I had to go for parts. The machine dealer met me at the door of his shop and said," Have I got a deal for you! He took me into his office and the sweetest deal of a lifetime made that Tractor mine!

The people you mention don't have balanced lives. They are working for a goal and excluding everything else. I have never heard of that small book, The Secret. I do believe it's on the right track, though, because if you visualize a goal and think positively, you will probably be successful. I don't think you will, though, if you let it consume your life. You might reach your goal but you may have lost everything else.

When “The Secret’ came out and there was a great of hype about it I wondered why it was considered a secret! I had known about this kind of thing for years! I first came across the writings of Florence Scovel Shinn (she wrote several books on the power of the subconscious mind as early as 1920) many years ago when a friend of mine introduced me to the concept of how powerful my thoughts and words are. Focussing whole heartedly on one thing will bring it pass but be careful what you focus on. I once visualised an engagement ring because I wanted the partner I had then to propose to me. I carried the picture of the ring around with me and meditated on it every day. It turned out that yes he bought me the ring but no he piked out of the commitment before I got the ring on my finger so I ended up with a beautiful ring in a box and no fiancé! I should have focussed more on the relationship instead of the ring!
I am inclined to think that it may be best to release our lives to the Universe and visualise on our best existence and happiness no matter what it may consist of because concentrating on one aspect only may not always be in our best interest.

I was taught about this many years ago also. One of the rules I was taught was to be very specific about what you ask. New studies have shown that if the wish is in anyway negative the mind will latch on to that part. Also new studies have shown that your very DNA carries response to what your mind is doing. This is why stress is so damaging. I love reading about all the studies they are doing and the new findings, that you can find in ancient writing and teaching that show the same information.

I believe in all the philosophies explain throughout the book they call the secret. Things happen in life through manifestation and powers of thought and positive thinking. I feel that the path of life involves two roads . The good and prosperous and the bad and defeated. Everyone wants that big house and that big fortune and to live a very successful life, but a lot of us do not make it a definite plan in our minds. My personal philosophy is that nothing is impossible. The mind makes it so.

Great read savy, thanks. I am thinking that perhaps that their time management was out of wack. What I mean to say is they became so engrossed in their goal that they allowed everything else, even the everyday important stuff, maybe even their marriage to slide. If we don't continue to eat properly, get proper exercise, spend quality time with family, even friends. Omit all or any of that and not only health but the important things in life may begin to fail.
I find with myself, while I am trying to re-arrange my time/schedule, when things are off, something else takes a hit. When the norm is upset, I am not feeling 100% sound. Can become irritable if things are sliding for too long. Hope this makes sense.
As for the secret, awesome book. I just pulled it out of my collection the other day to re-read. Thanks for the reminder.

Many people consider challengers to be problems and they worry and buckle under the strain of those situations, making them even worse. One the other hand, if we see all situations in a positive light, we will realize that each situation comes to teach us something, thereby making us bigger. The world is helping us to get where we ought to be. But are we able to see and trust that it is for our own good? Each situation comes to test us in something that we lack and helps us to develop that power.

hi savypat I think when people leave out everyone and everything to get to the goal with their passion, they find it is sort of empty without anyone to share the goal with. the moral to that it to not forget the people you love on the way to your goal,if you cannot take them with you your goal will be really empty and flavorless too. It is possible to reach a goal with your loved ones in your life, and thats the only way it will be fulfilling otherwise you reach that alone and whats that worth? zero,de nada , nothing.

I love and believe in the Secret. I have the book as well as the dvd and they are both very powerful and inspirational. I also believe that our thoughts are very powerful and what we focus on constantly will eventually appear in our lives. I think that you have to have a strong belief system, it's the belief that's the key I think and obviously very clear images in your mind of what you truly want. I think a lot of people tend to go for the obvious, more money in their lives and so forth, I'm certainly guilty of this as well but it's very difficult at times. Anyway, I'm still testing the theory of how the secret works. Andrew

I have seen their video. It's really inspiring.
Just by thinking positive thoughts you could change the
world. That's a very nice way of thinking to prevent us not
to get depressed of what's happening around us. Theirs a rainbow
after the rain..I do believe in it...

I liked that book. I try to live my life in a positive mode every day. I think everything is possible, all except for one thing; my husband is a very NEGATIVE person so it brings me down when he comes home. I usually meditate before he comes home from work, do Yoga, and keep absolutely positive because he will, without any doubt, come home to complain about the traffic, work, the weather, whats on Tv, you got the picture. He's a great provider and husband but i have to work on him and then he calms down.
He wouldnt read the book, i tried. Anyway, despite all these challenges,i do believe in this book snd in this positive way of living.
