Be honest I wont be mad. Does anyone really rate people or is it more of hit and miss with ratings. I know I rated everyone in every discussion I am in I have yet to give a negative. I just wondered if I was the only one who did this or even rated at all. Thanks for reading this and for your answer!

Hi Christina!
I am flabbergasted that yours is still stuck
I rate everything that I read and I read a lot. I don't rate negative unless it is a plagiarist that I am also reporting.
I am lost for words regarding yours and if it doesn't alter tomorrow it's a case for admin

Lamb is a he
Point your cursor over the star and you will see the percentage.
When it reaches 45.56 it will become a 5.
Then 55.56 it will become a 6.
Hopefully it will keep going up to where it should be

hi christianwise87 yes I really do rate everyone as mylot admins says for us all to do that as it helps all of us,so I am pretty faithful about it unless I run into a discussion that has 14 pages and its time for me to got to a meal, but usually I really do rate everyone and that is positive and I hope everyone else is doing this too. I am stuck on a nine and feel that by now I should be a ten, well we shall see.

thats great I hope you get a 10 soon! Yea it does help for people to let mylot know whos doing good and whos not really do much. Thats why I was concerned about my rating because I have only been here 4 days but over 120 so I think I am doing well! I actually didnt do but 2 things the first day so its really only 3 days!

I used to rate everyone positive in every discussion, as I read them, that way, if I was interrupted, I knew what I had and hadn't read. I only rated negative if the person was really nasty or they had committed an infraction.
Lately, though, because I had dialup and a slow computer and the mylot page wanted to reload all the time after rating, I stopped. It was reloading, I think, because of the new algorythm that ignored you rating someone more than a certain number of times in a day. I wasn't rating anyone better than anyone else, I was just rating as I read each post.
But, now that I just got a faster computer, the page reloads don't bother me so much, so I have begun rating everyone positive again. Plus, I would like to be rated positive as well, to raise my star from the 65, back up, so I can earn more. Since mylot pays you based on your mylot reputation rating, you get paid more for your posts if your star number is higher. *sigh*

Yeah that is another reason I dont mind rating because I am on cable so it doesnt bother me that I get a reload every once in a while. I have never rated a negative yet and hope to not have to. I have also heard mylot pays more if your rep is higher. I know I was told that in one of my discussions somewhere!

Yes, I do rate others. I will usually rate everyone a positive. I don't rate negative unless they put referral links in the discussion, or they are rude and obnoious. I feel that if they are going to take the time to post a sensible response or discusion, then they do deserve a positive. There are some that will rat others negative just for the heck of it, or because you idsagree with them them. that is so wrong, as we all have a right to our opinion, whether it be right or wrong. The ones that rate negative for no reason or because of disagreements, just don't care I guess, and they don't realize they are hurting themselves in the process. I rate positive the ones that rate me negative as I won't sttop to their level. We are all trying to have good ratings here anyway, and I was really high, but lost 8 points one night and have never gainde them back, but hey, I won't worry about it, as it will happen soon enough. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Oh wow I am sorry to hear that it would have bothered me to drop 8 points! I think it is wrong to neg someone who u disagree with. You should only give neg for misuse!

I was going to start this VERY discussion! I wondered too. I try to rate everyone in all my discussions. I have NEVER done a negative, even when I disagreed.
SO come on over everyone! Leave a comment on one of my discussions and get rated!!

I guess this is just there way of rewarding those who do well and post lots. I think that is awesome. In all reality it does benefit us to rate so that mylot knows which people are being read and who is doing really well!

It is okay! But it not only helps others but helps you to get a higher rated star too. If people like your discussion etc it gets you a better rating, and from what I hear a better rating gets you a better pay!

I think that rating is a good thing to do and I do this myself when I am contributing to discussions. This reflects on what you think of the discussion that you are rating. I rarely give a negative rating unless someone has really been really offensive in the discussion. Still, I like to rate, that's a good thing about My Lot. Andrew

I rate all my own discussions which I start religiously every time someone posts a response, although not every response warrants a rating. As for other people's discussions I rate them and their responses occassionaly when I see something either very good or very bad which really stands out. But I do feel that many people forget about this aspect of mylot, unfortunately.

I do too that is why I made this discussion to maybe get people to open up and remember that this is a major part of mylot. This feature needs to be used to get good people to make good pay.

Yeah I like to read and rate others :-) it's nice to let others know if what they share or add is of interest to me or anybody else. I know I like to know if my thoughts are relevant or appreciatted. It's the same for me on youtube, I love to rate vids, but it seems many people just watch but don't rate me back??? It only takes seconds yet others don't :-( Maybe it's overlooked? These sites shoud make a huge rating button that flickers like a smiley face or something??

Lets hope so. I dont use youtube as much but maybe my ratings will strike someone else to rate and then someone else then we got a catchy little spead going on. I am hoping that my discussions take off like that a wildfire. I really would like so have alot of pages and information talked about.

Yes, I agree a rating is very important it gives you the points you need to make good discussion and know that you are doing well by the rating I have to say I watch youtube vids alot. I am a person who forget to rate. i am more there to learn something from the video vs. just looking so I forget but will try to remember to rate the videos from now on so I do my part in helping youtubers know that their videos helped me out.

hello christina,
yes,i do.
I always rate respondent with my discussion with positive.
i don't rate negative,if i found too offending,i would rather report the person.
I just leave those responses un-commented...(negative responses)

Hello, Christina.:-)
Whenever I came across a discussion and/or commented to a response, I ALWAYS make sure I am rating it if it is good enough to be rated positively. It is seldom though that I consider a discussion or a response negative since we are only voicing out our opinions and sometimes unleashing our doubts. I couldn't nor I wouldn't consider any opinion negative unless it is trying to be very offensive and fight provoking(so far, I haven't encountered such still).
This is my way of appreciating their participation (esp to respondents) aside from commenting back.
In case of a negative remark(less substance and irrelevant to the topic)I am not rating the respondent at all.I'd rather leave its rating untouched so as not to affect anything.
Have a wonderful day ahead.:-)

Sometimes, but only if I feel a post is really deserving of a negative/positive rating. I tend to read through the whole of a discussion, so obviously I have handed out my fair share of ratings

as long as I am here in mylot and I give a respon or make a new discussion, I never give a rate to anybody who respon my discussion with negative simbol. I think there is no advantages for me to rate somebody respon or discussion. it is your right to give your rate to other response but maybe you will be rated also by other people. just enjoy mylotting my friend

Hi Christina,
I have only just joined myLot a few days ago, but having read the FAQs, I am now trying to rate every post positively on basic criteria - for example, if it is a good, well thought-out answer (regardless of whether or not I agree with it).
I have yet to rate anyone negatively, but I understand that the rating system only effects users with 100 or more posts. Is this correct?
Thanks and have a nice day.

No I believe it is you only can rate after you hit 100. I believe before 100 your ratings dont count. I am not 100% on that but from what I was told this is how it works. But you need ratings before a 100 so when you get your star at 100 it isnt a really low one.

Yes, I really do. I do positive ratings on posts I read and discuss and on answers to my discussions. If I reply to discussion then it means that I was interested in it, right? So I am making positive rating to the author. Why not? It not takes lot of time... ;-)

Thank you for letting me know. I just thought people didnt do it because they are so into trying to make money vs. helping each other out to gain a bigger profit. I agree it doesnt take but a second more to hit a rating.

Yes, I do rate others dutifully. Even before I put my comments I make sure that I rate the plus sign first. But I wonder whether others do the same to mine as I seem to get stuck with my red star and my reputation meter doesn't seem to be moving. It has been 89 since mid of last year. Either people don't rate me appropriately or the rating system is faulty. I hope people are kind enough to rate everyone positively as we are here to help each other to move up the ladder.

I do not give a negative even though I do not agree and to raise only one number is required more than one person. I sometimes forget to sign, but I try to give positive values. It ever goes wrong people use of the always negative in the past, and will not repeat the same mistakes in the present or future.

To be honest, I dont really spend time rating everyone on the discussions I participate in or even on the discussions I started. The only time I would bother rating people is when either I notice that they really had great points and I learned a lot from their contributions or when they are spamming and being rude. Mylot for me is a source of information so I really try to reward those people I think went out of their way to provide te best answer and not just because they want to have tons of posts. I also believe Mylot should be a peaceful and healthy community so everyone should respect eachother. No right and wrong answer here really. :D

I'm so new here that I often forget to rate people. Thank you for the reminder! I will try to be sure and remember to rate everyone on the discussions that I read. In the short time that I have been here, I haven't seen anyone that I would give a negative rating to. I stay away from the topics where people tend to get nasty with their opinions, so I'm not sure what those discussions are like.

It helps you to rate because your rating gives you a higher pay rate. If you rate well other do too!
