For the first question. The "best phone" is the cell phone that works best for you. I have my preferences. But, you may think differently. That's why different people have different phones, and why compnies continue to produce phones because no two people are exactly the same.
Now, without knowing which phone you have I can't tell you how to reformatt the memory card. More over I'm not even sure if you want to erease everything. So if you could provide me details then I'd be more then happy to give you as much insite as possible. Formatting a phone is different based on the make and model. Though most resets are found in your phone settings.

For mobile applications and text friendly, I prefer Nokia. And if your into lot of music and gaming, then I would recommend Sony Ericsson handsets. But if you're into style and fashion then Samsung leads in that department. The brand of mobile phones depends largely on how will you use it for example if your a professional or businessman, a high end phone must be in your consideration but if your just an average user then a relatively moderate priced handsets would be a good option to buy.
All of them claimed that their products are number one in the market. But in the end, its the consumer reviews and comments that spells a difference in choosing the best mobile phone out there. Plus the budget factor is also a consideration.
Regarding how to format the memory card, it depends on the settings of your phone. Usually you can find it in the menu, look for the settings icon or options tab under memory space..hopes this helps you a lot.

My phone since then is Samsung, and I love the sleek designs. But my phone before my current Samsung model, which was SGH-J750, broke twice. It was a sliding phone. And they say that sliding & flip-top Samsung models are not that reliable. But if I would get to choose and buy a phone right now, I prefer Sony Ericsson models. I think they last for years. But I still love Samsung designs :)
