Do you what is Alzheimer's? It is a progressive disease and fatal brain disease. About 10% of the global population have this disease. It is the most common for dementia, which is general term for memory loss and other intellectual abilities serious enough to interfere with activities of daily living.
If it is progressive then that would mean only older adults will develop this. Wrong, Alzheimer has and early onset. This occurs when individuals under 65 of age have progressive brain changes and abnormalities which lead to an early Alzheimer occurrence. You will forget things that you even will forget how to brush your teeth, doing toilet privilege, taking a bath and even eating food.
There is no CURE when you get this disease. Once diagnose of having the disease you are already bound for it forever. Medications only prevents the progression of the disease if treated early and this medication don't come cheap.
Do you know the best way to prevent Alzheimer's at an early age? Yes! Researches all around the world concluded this as an definite answer "READ, READ and READ". Many people may not notice this but reading is the best brain tickler for memorization and intellectual functioning. Make reading a habit. It is not limited in books but you have the internet already just like now you are reading my discussion post. Did I tickle your brain?

Well, that certainly made me think! I've always been a voracious reader and so has my mother and grandmother. Mom is 86 and very sharp, Grandma was alert and focused till she passed away.
It makes you wonder, doesn't it? Back in the 50's and 60's we didn't hear much about anything like Alzheimer's. People didn't watch much television then, it wasn't on all the time like it is now. There are people that watch TV 5 hours or more a day!! I wonder if that contributes to Alzheimer's? I would not doubt it.

good point dragon, it would be interesting to see the results of testing those that watch none to little tv to those that watch tv constantly.
Personally every book that I have read that has been made into a movie- can never compare with the book. I always encourage reading to youngsters I deal with because it was always encouraged to me by others when I was young.

...Hi nykel, I would certainly agree, the more you use your brain, the better off you will be, hopefully not to get alzheimers. There is somethimg called Folic Acid which I have read, helps to improve your memory. In the morning before you even get up out of bed, hang your head over the side of your bed, without falling out, and let the blood flow into your brain. This helps to stimulate the brain cells and helps with the memory. One other thing that is good, would be to stsrt doing things with your non-dominste hand, brush your hair, brush your teeth, try to learn to write with it. This will supposedidly build new brain cells. Try all of it. Keep on trucking, as well as reading. Take care.

I agree, the best prevention for having total progression for alzheimer's disease is the activities that will be engaged in active mind. READING is best for this will give your brain many warm up exercises and the brain neurons will be active. Healthy conversations, many body and mind activities will give the person with this illness a hope to have good shot for a much healthier life.
It is like an engine, brand new or surplus one, when it is used always. The condition is good and always be monitored. If ever there will be a problem in the engine, instant solution can be given by fixing it. But, no matter how the engine is brand new if it is seldom used for a long time. This will also have many engine problems and stocked up machine failures. Still, the better engine who are used either a brand new or second one as long being used always, be considered still the best and safe engine to be use. Similar to the brain, if one uses his brain always by doing mental exercise activities like reading, puzzle games and many more intellectual games, no matter the age you got. It will work functionally normal. The said brain disorder can be prevented or if not at least minimized.

Nice info, thank you nykel88. I feel so lucky to find this website, because i read a lot here. So many useful tips i found in this website. I can't imagine if i get this disease, and forget everything in my life. Maybe its good for the bad memories, but it will feel so sad when we cant remember any good memory that we ever did in the past.

Your welcome luvlymee. Yes I am also thankful about myLot. This site motivates me to read as a price of earning. It is both healthy and investment free. My Grandma had this disease that is why I am sharing this. She only had mild Alzheimer's but it is still a hassle for sometimes she just urinates on the bed and she didn't even notice and also asks questions that were already answered 10 minutes ago.

Maybe it is not just reading but memorizing also. This will give the brain enough exercise each day. In my case I always read the Bible and make it a point to memorize one Bible verse each. One Bible verse each day does not only help me avoid Alzheimer's disease but gives me the assurance that the word of God is always in my heart. The word of God is worth every reading and meditation and I am sure this is one way of getting God's mercy and grace so that He will not allow us suffer any progressive brain changes and abnormalities during our senior years.
Here are some verses that inspires me to meditate on God's words each day. I wanna share it to you!
Psalm 119:97-104
Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
You, through Your commandments, make me wiser than my enemies;
For they are ever with me.
I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.
How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
GOD BLESS YOU!
