My hubby set out the other day when it was snowing so hard to clear the parking lot of the snow, it is something he does to help the landlord and gets him out of the house. The wind was blowing and it was cold, but not any colder than it has been lately. He would come in and rest and go back out. Later that evening I noticed his cheeks was really red, I know the cold makes them red, didn't give it much thought and went on to bed. The next morning I got up to find his whole face was swollen and his nose especially was swollen twice the size, when I ask him what was wrong he said that he must have a sinus infection. He is not one to go to the doctor, so as the next 2 days went on, it got worse, more swelling and more redness. Then he begin to get these bags under his eyes so large they hung down on his cheeks. that is when I said you going to the doctor. Well doc said take him straight to emergency room. Soon as we got to see the doctor he said FROST BITE, they put some kind of medicine on the redness and told him to wash it off when he got home, not to sleep with it and rub it in his eyes, he was given a pain relever and 2 other medicines. Today the redness is gone, but he is still quite swollen.
If someone you know is going to be out in the cold shoveling or just out with the kids or walking, make sure that all parts of their body is covered so that the wind does not get to their skin, it doesn't take long for the cold to cause severe damage. Don't know what would of happen if he had not gone to the doctor.
So please watch and if you see someone out in the cold and their faces become all red please get them inside so that this does not happen to them.

Holy cow! Frostbite. I don't think that would ever occur to me as a danger. I guess a lot of people only associate frostbite with people who get trapped outside for days or something like that. Poor guy! But thank goodness he has you. I think sometimes men would rather die than go to the doctor. Hope he feels better soon. That is so very scary.
