I prefer to give to both because it is not about what they do with your money but with how you help them. If you give alms to beggars it can be of help to them and if you give to charity they in turn will help the homeless and in need of help people. Whenever I have change I always give them to the beggars I pass by on the street.

Hello,
I think it actually depends on the individual. Sometimes we want to have others involved to make a stronger cohesive effort. Some people prefer to do everything alone. Now charities are good as long as they are directed to the very root of the problem, the poverty. Merely giving alms to beggars is not gonna solve the problem. It can of course temporarily ease the situation. In order to permanently eliminate it you have to give them food, education and then job. Charity should ensure first the basic needs, then other essential things like schooling, training and then inclusion of this workforce in mainstream. Often charitable institutions prove more efficient in those things as several people work there together for a unified purpose. But I don't believe that if anyone really wants to help the poor people he won't be able to do so.
Thanks for starting such an interesting discussion
God bless you

Hi..I prefer to charities than to beggar. As you said we don't know that what for they use the money.Often we found that they would like to be beggar to get money in easy way.in fact, they have home and can live normal.Actually, when we would like to give, maybe we don't have to think about it but it's mean that we make them enjoy to being beggar and lazy to looking for job.

giving it to charity or to beggars both are useless if they fall into the wrong hands ... we need to be more careful of where we are spending ....if we are giving it to the charity we shuld make sure that it is going in the right hands ,,,ppl are making correct use of our money ...a check on the charity institution would be a gud idea.also i always think that beggars shuld never be given money whatever the cause may be . by giving the money we are the ones causing more trouble to them .
ppl are made blind and amputated for begging there whole life and just 'coz we are giving money to the beggars we are unintentionally promoting this events .small children are abducted from there homes asked for ransom after getting the ransom these kids are still not returned to there home but are made handicapped and forced to beg to increase these ***** ppl's income.
i am always against giving money to beggars . whatever the cause may be each individual is capable of earning money in some or the other way.begging is an easy option so most of them prefer it . but if we close this options they will be forced to do sincere work .
ofcourse this problem is a little different for womens. women have to face most of the atrocities . they are raped forced to beg and many things .there are many things that disturbs me a lot and i feel helpless of not being able to these people .
but still if u r giving out money make sure that it is being giving for a gud cause

hi! I think it is better to give money direct to the beggars, because so you know that it goes to a person who really needs it, and the charities are sometimes only a cover to something nasty, and many people try to make "dirty" money from charities!

This is a good question. I honestly feel that going thru an organization is better but do your research. Like if you go to our local food pantry it goes to people who qualify for the need & it's ran mainly by volunteers so their overhead is small & the community in need benefits more. Where other charities have such huge overhead they spend more money trying to fund raise & pay their staff than helping the community.
And well beggars.... I've not bumped into one personally. However, I have heard of people who give them food and have been rejected because it was not alchol or cash. I've also heard of a guy who sat on a corner begging and when his day was done walked a few blocks away to his luxury car.
