Have you ever baked a cake with apple sauce instead of cooking oils

I read that substituting apple sauce for cooking oils or butter is a healthy option. From what I read it has less fat, and it makes the cake really moist. I found a recipe for pound cake, and would love to try it. I was wondering if anyone have used the apple sauce in baking. Would you recommend using apple sauce?

Did anyone catch the Dr. Oz show today. He had a guest on that used a food that everyone eats as a substitute for butter that is typically put in a chocolate mousse. The guest blindfolded Dr. Oz and a volunteer from the audience and he fed them a spoonful of the mousse and asked them to guess what he used as a substitute for the butter, Neither one could guess. Can you? It was avocado. Avocado is quite fatty but the fats that it contains are healthy ones.

Yes, I have tried the applesauce option and I found that it worked well. My family couldn't tell the difference. I also read that canned pumpkin serves the same purpose. I tried it in brownies and it turned our pretty good but haven't tried it in a cake yet. Give it a try. I think that you'll be pleased with the results.

Surprisingly, not so much. It adds a flavor that to me is reminiscent of allspice.

It is true that applesauce is a good substitute for oil. The only cake I have ever made with applesauce was one that was designed to be made with applesauce. However, I frequently use applesauce in baking quick breads and muffins. They do usually come out rather moist, and the applesauce adds a little extra sweetness, too.

Apple sauce is terrific when used in cake recipes. I read about it as well on the interenet, tried it, and have been making cakes with it ever since. It really does make a difference and truly does keep the cake very moist. I have never tried it in pound cake, but I assume it would be great.

I know applesauce is very good as a cake baking agent and does yield a moist cake. It is definitely a worthwhile and healthy option to oils or butter. I definitely recommed using it, especially for health reasons, but you need to read your recipe carefully to find out if certain substitutes will work for the particular one you are using.

I've not tried it in a cake but it works really well in quick breads (banana, zucchini, etc).

Wow! I didnt know that apple sauce is a good thing to have a moist cake. I always use cooking oil or butter when I bake and I always have to be careful with the temperatture and the baking time so I would have a moist cake. I think I am going to try this one out. Trial and error its fine by me. experience is still the best teacher.
