Will your mood affect the music you listen to?

We all have different mood swings right? And for me , whatever my mood is then my taste of music varies too. my very happy mood prompts me to listen to upbeat music and my sad mood makes me be at ease with real mellow music. When I'm missing someone then I'll go for classical and instrumental music. And watch out, when I'm angry , then it will be just rock music...I wonder if everybody has the same taste of music in the same mood...care to comment friends...

Hi angel,
Actually it does. I generally listen to music that is in accordance with my mood. But sometimes when I am having some strong emotion, I listen to opposite kind of music in order to control it. For example, when I am elated, I try to keep my cool by listening to sad songs. When I am depressed I listen to positive music. I use music in modifying most of my emotions rather than boosting it.
God bless you

wow! seems like you're in strong control of yourself. Hey , if you're happy or elated , enjoy it then. I guess it's not that harmless so as to control it .(smiles)

Its not just about control. I just don't want to exhaust it right away. The control is need for enjoying it in an optimum way and to also make it last longer.
Take care

I would have to agree with you. music really does affect my mood and my mood affects my choice of music as well. Wen I am sad, I tend to get more sad by listening to ballad music and sad love songs which is kind of weird. I know the right attitude should be to listen to lively songs to get rid of the sadness, but I am really a very emotional person so I would rather celebrate my being sad by listening to sad songs. It's more therapeutic for me. When I am happy, I also tend to listen to upbeat songs and even songs that I would unlikely listen to. :D

It is weird someow right. if we look at it this way. We are mainly riding on our feelings. So we act in accordance to what our emotion dictates us. Do you really think it's therapeutic? For mine, i guess yes .And also each feeling passes by , i once had a retreat before and the master told us to be aware of the feeling you have at the moment .And at the same time, observe how it will pass or fade away...I think music applies to how we notice it in us and how it passes through...Right friend?

I think that most do choose tunes that reflect what we are feeling.
After all, as usual, when two pals are about to choose some music, does one not often hear the other ask "What do you 'feel like' listening too?
Happy mood usually prompts me to listen to a variety of my favorites, Enya especially. A sad mood may have me listening to something like Pale Sun Crescent Moon by Cowboy Junkies. When I am missing someone I usually listen to a variety of my favorites. Like yourself, when I am angry, I will crank on rock n roll, such as Black Sabbath or The Cult.

My mood never affect the music i listen too. Its the opposite. The music i listen, it can affect my mood, because im a very sensitive person. When im in a good mood, and then i listen to a broken heart song, the lyrics will affect my mood, and it can make me feel sad and remember to all bad memories i had. Huhuhu.. thats why now i only listen to upbeat song or instrumental music, to keep my mood in good.

My mood does influence the music I listen too. But sometimes the music I listen to affects my mood too! For example, this morning I was in a bit of a bad mood and I started to listen to some really happy upbeat music and after a few minutes I felt much happier and better. Music is a great thing to have when your feeling down or mad because it can boost your mood in just a couple minutes!

If I'm sad , I don't listen to music at all. I'm in too much pain. When I'm happy I play rock or country. When I'm feeling romantic , I listen to soft rock and pop love songs. when I'm angry I Rock the Metal, the heavier the better.

I believe that thet the mood we are in as to have an overwhelming effect on our choice in music. If we are saddened, we tend to lisyen to more somber music. if we are happy, we listen to a livelier beat. The heart goes trough many emotions. Our musical choices set the tempo for us.

I never really thought about this, but the more that I do, that actually does happen. Different moods do lead to different types of music. I guess the fact that I enjoy certain types of music depending on where I am in the day would account for this. It is not something that I do on purpose but it has been occurring very often. I switch up the music very often. I cannot think of any examples off hand but there are different types of music that account for different moods that I am in. Especially when I do different tasks like school, work, or casual, that affects my mood and thus affects my music.

yes, I feel same. I love the songs based on my Mood. I listen music of my mood and fell better but if I am sad, sad songs deepen my feelings, So I avoid listening sad songs in same mood.

music really affects our mood i agree on that. i learned that supermarkets use music for there customers so that they will spend more time choosing what thing to bought and even malls. i guess it is really true that music had a great play in affecting in our mood each time we hear them.

I usually only listen to easy listening, lite rock, or sometimes country. My current mood has nothing to do with it. I only listen to music when i feel compelled to not very often. SO its about my mood because I'll listen to the same thing when I feel like listening to music.
