Hi jahernand. I prefer homemade mashed potatoes. They taste so much richer and it has an awesome original flavor to it. It tastes very old fashioned. My father-in-law makes mashed potatoes from scratch. He peels them and mashes them up into mashed potatoes. I do make the instant mash potatoes for my kids though. They like it. But, I really don't care for it when it tastes so artificial.

No gravy for me, I like butter and garlic! Mmmm.
I think homemade potatoes are the best but I admit I will often resort to instant mashed potatoes to save myself some time since I am a busy college student!

I like home made much better myself but when I do not have a lot of time I resort to the instant. Have you tried the Betty Crocker instant mashed potatoes? They are really good and do not even taste instant!! They are around a dollar a package at Wal-Mart. They are so good!!! Have a nice day!!

hi jahernandezrivas hi again, oh there is nothing as delicious as made from scratch mashed potatoes by peeling potatoes, or leaveing the peeling on, cutting into small piece,cook til done, then mash with some good margarine , salt and pepper, and you h ave the real thing, mashed potatoes. the boxed instant stuff has a chemical taste to it that I really do abhor. yuck. The silly think is that the real thing does not take a whole lot more time than the instant crap. lol lol

I love homemade much more any day!!! If I have to eat the instant I will but I usually don't because I have to add so much extra butter and seasoning to them I feel it is a waste of my time I don't mind cooking them at all!!!

I prefer gravy on my mashed potatoes, it helps add a mix of flavors to it that I really like. Since I've never had white gravy before, I'm gonna have to say I prefer the brown gravy. As far as telling goes, I can sometimes tell...like, if there a little bits of potato or potato skin even sometimes cooked into the mashed potatoes, chances are that it's homemade. Honestly, I can't really tell the difference taste-wise..:(

Home made mashed potatoes are the best! Especially when there is still peels in them! I like gravy sometimes but usually only when I have the mashed potatoes at home. Chicken gravy is my favorite. My mom used to make homemade mashed potatoes with homemade chicken gravy and wow was is good! When I go out to eat I just get butter or sour cream or cheese. Cheesey mashed potatoes are amazing! Instant mashed potatoes aren't bad but there definitely not as good as home made one!

I agree with you 100% homemade are the best!! I like to put lots of butter and I like lots of pepper too. Yummy! I don't really care for instant mashed potatoes but if I have to eat them I will .I will just have to add extra butter and pepper! L.O.L.
I bought these instant Betty Crocker potatoes last week they really looked good and usually when I but things from Betty Crocker it is good. I have yet to try them but soon!!

I order mashed potatoes all the time with brown gravy and yes i can tell the difference between homemade and instant i hate instant potatoes unless the are the garlic mashed potatoes or the cheese ones
