when you are not earning something in some way? I don´t mean necessarily money. I mean doing something "useful". I have read that the Ancient Romans thought that the leisure time was the most important in life: it was creative. But now it seems that we are going exactly the opposite: we seek money and forget other things. What do you think of this? What is your own attitude towards time spent working and leisure time? I confess That I´m what many would call "lazy" in spite of getting a lot of things done. It´s more the importance I give to the time spent on myself. Share

Well, Jo! The way I see it, you go to buy veggies and fruits at a farmers place and make good and less expensive things. You help and pray for all the people you know who need a loving hand. And there´s a little boy around that loves his Bobo. You do a lot and the pay is good. You are sowing love, you will harvest love. Hug

Taking time for yourself should not be considered being lazy. Allowing time to rest, reflect and dream is necessary to nurturing creative thoughts and ideas. Looking at it that way, idle time is spent 'earning' something, even if it's just an idea or plan for creating something concrete later on. So, go take a rest and don't feel guilty about it!

I don´t feel guilty, friend, although some workholics I know would love to make me feel guilty. Some people think that even laughing is a sin. Take care!

Hi Marguicha, ...that is why i am trying my best to be advocate for self-care. we're so busy with so many things and forget one thing- to take care of our selves. i think if there's something that i will be guilty of is ABUSING MYSELF too much to earn for a living. that's why i make it a point to have a weekly therapy massage, gym workout and aerobics, weekly bonding/dining out with the family. theres so much to enjoy with the family. spending quality time and making memories.

You are being wise, my friend. Nothing good comes out of overworking. Yesterday, one of my friend here told us about a friend of her with stress. She had suggested a vacation and was asking for our opinion. I said "by all means, yes". I thing that taking care of ourselves is healthy and has nothing to do with luxuries. It is not a luxury to take the toime to be with our loved ones, buying a ring can be something to spare. Take care!

all material things can be spared but never life and health. this what keeps us going. and if we're healthy then we will surely be productive. cheers!

hi marguicha! I sometimes do. I always prioritize things that are so important to me one of which is my work. I sometimes neglect having great time with friends like night-outs and bar-hopping and I seldom treat myself (shopping, salons, buying thing for myself) because I work for my family and to help them with the best of my abilities. I know it is sometimes "unfair" not to get the things that we deserve but deep within me I know that I will be more "guilty" and unsatisfied if I give more importance with own happiness, leisure and forget about work, family and other important things. So with me, it's a mixed emotion~I'm happy that I am able to help my family and a bit sad because I forgot myself most of the time. haha! But it is all good for I know I will find time for myself. Happy Lotting!

Hi danity, I understand how important it is for you to help your family. But I´m sure that if you just put away a small quantity of money every time you get paid ( a piggybank sort of thing) and give yourself a treat even once a month, you will be happy and still will have helped. I know what family love is and no loving family wants to sacrifice one of its members. You can have both worlds. Take care!

In my case, i feel all the guilt in this world because i don't have a job yet. I'm not able to help my parents pay the bills and other expenses so we can breathe a little easier. right now i'm still waiting for the institution to call me about the job i'm applying. my mom thinks that i'm lazy because all i do the whole day is sit in front of the computer. she didn't know that i'm "mylotting" to earn some cents. oh well, one thing's for sure.. if i get that job, i'll be working my butt off until i scream for rest.

i hate wasting time that i could be doing other things. i am pretty creative and have a lot of craft/art projects on the go which i do in my spare time so i hate lazing around in bed or anything like that when i could be working on them.

There are several ways of spending leisure time. For you it is your handiwork, for other people is talking to the plants, yet for others is talking to themselves or to God. When the Romans celebrated "otium" over "nec otium" they were not thinking of someone taking a nailfile and doing her nails (although that, too, is a necessity)

Hi Marguicha, There is no doubt that our leisure time should be creative and many are doing creative things as well. But money factors count too. Money is the thing that makes all the difference. Working during leisure time is earning extra bucks and this adds to your total earning. This extra is to be on the main stream as all are in the act. Yes there is a point to feel guilty when one really does not do anything. But doing your job regularly and not being creative in the free hour is individual choice.

Sunset at a beach - I was here and took a lot of pictures with the hope of nurturing with the sunset. I did not need the pictures though: the sunset is in my heart.
I think that love and awareness of the beauty of the universe is what makes the difference. Money is important when you work enogh as to have decent food, dwelling and education. But I feel more rich if I can see a sunset than when I see the brightness of a diamond ring.

Hiya marguicha, Well some people love to try and make me feel guilty because I can´t find a Job. I have tried countless times to find one but there are so few jobs that not even the 16 year olds can get one now. No I don´t feel guilty now I have got over that syndrome so to speak. You are only in the House are some of the comments I get to hear but they speak without thinking and sometimes when I get fed up I remind them that without me being here they would have to cook for themselves, wash there own clothes and a long ect., so the big silence kicks in and they will not admit they are wrong the machismo attitude shines in all it´s glory in this country but I for one will not feel guilty about being born a Woman or taking leasure time if I can call it that for myself.

In my country it is absolutly imposible to get a job past certain age. I have just quit trying. Earnin online has proven a nice alternative to have some money and I save it and spend ALL of it on vacations. Hurray for leisure time!

I am very new in earning online. Now i am in holiday. So now i am totally free from study hard. After few days my class will be start then i will come online only my leisure time. because study is my first things for what i stay so far from my parents. I make a routine and then work on it. Other i will feel guilty.

Hello marguicha, I wish we'd do as the Ancient Romans and accept that we all need more leisure time. Yes its important. Now, thing is, our society thinks that its not and if you're not doing anything that "pays" then you're labelled as lazy. I remember 10-20 yrs ago when they promised us more leisure time.....what happened? Why are we running from one place to another with no more time to even think? I want my promised leisure time. I also need it to rest and think about things. Im always running around. My running doesnt always pay as I do the cooking, the cleaning, the washing, the shopping, etc.....so that doesnt earn me a pay, but it has to be done and if anyone says Im being lazy, well let them. BUT, whats wrong with being lazy sometimes? Why arent we allowed to just sit and think? Why cant we read a good book? Something's wrong with our society that says we have to always be in a rush to go somewhere or to do something. Im trying to take some "ME" time now and I wont let anyone label me as "lazy"!!!

I think it´s about time we, people who need that time, got together and demand it. That´s how many social improvements were done (like the maximum amount of hours, vacations and so on). I also think that people who live in big cities have a worse quality of life than people who live in smaller comunities.

I don't think there is anything to be feeling guilty.. i don't mind if a have leisure time after my work and they call LAZY.. humans work just like a machine nowadays so i don't think there is extra time in doing something very useful..

one obviously feels guilty when he is not able to do something that is expected by him for himself. but one should never let guilt to overpad someone. therefore one should have meagre expectations from hi/her life.
