My cat is 20 years old and we've had him since he was a kitten. He spends most of his time sleeping now, but he was more active when he was younger. I don't really remember how active he was when he was six, but I think it's common for cats to sleep a lot. They're not like dogs, who need to run around and burn off energy. Cats seem to like to play for a short while, and then find a comfortable spot to nap. When we had two cats, they seemed to be more active because they had each other to play with. As long as your cat isn't acting sick, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I think thst is okay to sleep a lot at 6 years of age. My two cats are 6 and 8 years of age and they sleep a lot. I used to say about my Mothers cat that he slept 90% of his life. If your cat is eating, drinking and doing poos and wees, and seems healthy, I wouldnt be concerned.

It would be because cats that get involved in a cat fight, nearly always get their bites infected. It is very common.. So the vet gives an injection of antibiotics. It is a good idea.

Six is still young for a cat. Two of mine are over 14 years old and a cat can live up to and beyond the age of 20. Try playing with him to stimulate him more.

I've lived with cats all my life, and there have been only two who have reached the age of 18 but without looking it up, I think that the record is closer to 30 than 20.

I REALLY depends on the cat. We have a 6 yr old cat who is VERY active, while we have a 2 yr old who isn't. Nef is still bouncing off the walls, while Tony we are STILL trying to get him to jump in our laps! Kittens are like children, more active than most adults, but by the time they are adult (around 2) you should begin to know if they are still going to be active. Honestly, we knew Rygel was going to be busy because he could wear out all his sibs, AND the older cats and still have the energy to jump up and take things off the fridge. When we took in Roxie and her kittens, Boris and Natasha, we KNEW Natasha was another busy kitten, but this time she had Rygel to play with. When Rygel ran down, she'd bother all the other cats until Rygel had recharged! All cats are different, but the expectation is that they are more likely to be lazy than busy - conservation of energy is how they survived. Small bursts of energy to catch dinner and then laying around recovering. In this day and age the short burst gets them to the food bowl... what else do they need?

did ya count how many I named? Granted, we found a home for Boris and Natasha, but check out some of my cat discussions... I have a LOT of cats! Oh, Rygel is the white eared cat in my avatar, Oliver is the kitten... Rygel taught Oliver to be a cat, since we got him at a week old.

I have 2 cats. Cleo is 4 and always going full tilt. Delilah is the more laid back one and she's 3. They both sleep on and off all day. But Cleo overall is far more active than Delilah. Now if I play with them then they get riled up and run crazy and that's great fun for all of us. You might want to mention it to the vet next time you go. I know that cats sleep about 18 hours a day but some of that is just resting with their eyes closed...LOL. Be Well!

Thanks! Tho at times I wonder if Cleo would be less of a Queen Bee if I hadn't named her after one of the most powerful women in History! She always looks wise while Delilah always looks relaxed and ready for a cuddle. So very different in temperments!

My oldest cat is at least 18. I've had her for at least 14 years, and when I got it as a rescue from a vet clinic, they said she was somewhere between 4 and 6 years old then. She's showing her age, and does sleep a lot. She can no longer jump up on my bed, so I made a little set of 'stairs' for her to get up there. I keep it by the head of the bed on the side where the wall is closest, nobody but the cat knows it's there lol. She still plays some. Not every day, but some days she acts like a kitten chasing stuff, then gets tired quick and takes a nap. The vet thought she was close to her time of passing about 3 years ago, so I got another rescue cat from them. You know, that younger cat kinda gave her a new lease on life or something. They play together, sleep together, and I'm glad I got her a companion kitty in her 'old age'. Not sure, but I believe cats are just like humans, one will be real old and still be able to do all kinds of stuff, and a different person may be the same age and act far older than their years. I don't know about your cat, but mine seem to sleep more in the daytime, and the night is when they are more active. Your kitty's cute!

Our cat, Morgana, will be 4 years old this June. She is getting so big. I remember when we got her she fit in the palm of my hand. Our cat sleeps all the time. We joke about her taking pre-naps, naps and then post naps. I've taken her to the vet but she's perfectly healthy. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**

Hi hopejordan. I have two cats, Pyewacket who will be 9 years old on June 17th, and Kissy who will be 11 in October, neither are very active cats and tend to sleep a lot too, but every once in awhile they will run around for no apparent reason so it's almost funny to watch. In fact, my two cats often like to sleep on my bed most times, and sleep with me when I go to bed...and I love their company

George and I have two cats. The oldest , Precious, is ten years old nearing eleven. Our youngest, Chinnia, is about three-four. I'm not exactly sure. But, we have two cats on opsite ends of the age spectrum I find that kind of irronic and funny actually.

Most cats tend to sleep between 12 and 16 hours a day and it's not unusual for some to sleep up to 20 hours in a day. My cat who is one year old tends to be very active during the morning but sleeps all afternoon. She then goes out for a few hours early evening then returns as I go to bed to snuggle up in her favourite spot for a good night's sleep! My first cat - who lived to be almost 19 - slept almost all the time during the last years of her life. I can't remember what she did when she was 6 but she certainly was never as active as the cat I have now so I guess she must have slept a lot then.
