A while back, my other laptop shut down suddenly and I was unable to restart it. It was a very hot day and the laptop and box on the cord felt very hot. I turned it on the other day and I got a page giving me different options how to start the thing because it shut down suddenly. I chose to open it normally and all was fine.
Meanwhile, I'm at my friends hose because a storm has moved my dish out of alignment. I'm setting up my laptop at her place and while my back is turned her 2 year old is pressing keyboard buttons all at once.
When I try to type anything, using the e d and x key (and maybe others...I don't have the laptop set up at the moment) it types about 6 letters...for instance...the e key types qwefgsv...or something like that. I have tried a restore point and pressing all the function keys...but I can't fix it.
I hope someone knows what the issue is ...like is it a hardware problem, a virus or did the kid stuff things up?
I have another problem today on this laptop. The cursor keeps moving across the page by itself. I have rebooted but it still has a mind of it's own...any clues?

Maybe you have other language option set up in your computer. You have to go there and make sure is set up for English.
Or maybe computer was made in Japan?
It is often an issue when you use Outlook.

I am experiencing problem with my computer too. It keeps freezing and will send a message saying that firefox is not responding and I have to close and reopen the pages. I am no computer savvy myself so am keen to read from others to this post.

Zandi I suggest you run your Security Scans clean your Cookies do a defrag and also uninstall Firefox and reinstall it
I had that Problem once a couple of years back and reinstalling it helped as all the other which I do every Night before going to bed (apart from Defrag, I do that once a week) also if you do not have the CCleaner download it for free and run it every Night before closing down
I hope this will help your Problem

Hello my friend. I'm sorry to say that it sounds to me as though your friend's son has dislodged a connection or transition board underneath the keyboard. I'm not sure whether you can get the laptop keys off in the same way you can a keyboard, but hopefully, it wouldn't cost too much to fix. I think it's probably best to take it to somebody who knows about how keyboards work, and I'm sure it just needs a little bit of welding done to it or something. I'm assuming from what you say, that the child hit the same key too hard, and dislodged or disconnected a tiny wire or something. I definitely don't think it's a harware problem... it's just the keyboard by the sounds of things.
As for the cursor moving across the screen on its own; that happens on my desktop. I think it's because the mouse is so sensitive. Do you use a mouse with your laptop, or could it be because the mouse pad is being crossed by your hands as you type, or that your hands are resting on the mouse pad. That also happens to me at times even though I use a plugged in mouse on it! lol.
I hope that helps and that your keyboard issue is minor. Brightest Blessings my friend.

Yes, dirty hands could be another reason, but surely they wouldn't have been that dirty that they clogged up the keyboard, although if they were "sticky", I guess that could be a feasible problem.
Good luck with the physio... I'll see you soon, I hope. :)

Hello lovely. I've been doing some research and it could be that his hands were dirty and things have clogged up. It's late now and I have to travel to see my physiotherapist early tomorrow nut I'll be sure to check out your suggestions. Thank you so much. Blessed be.

Hmm. I think there is more than one issue here and I am no computer expert.
I do know that with laptops you must not let them overheat at all. My daughter has to regularly turn her laptop off when it overheats. She read somewhere that it may need a new battery.
Yoiur friends 2 year old fiddling with the keyboardss may have messed something up.
I have had the cursur problem before, and what I do is clean it, or shake it.

Hi Jennybianca, yes, there are two issues on two computers. I took some of the caps off and cleaned underneath...they were dirty all right but it did not fix the problem. Not sure what you mean by cleaning or shaking the cursor...do you mean the mouse? I've done some research and found it's a hardware problem, not the mouse. I've tried the fixes I read about and none of them worked...it's ok at the moment but seems to be on the way out. I'm just patiently waiting for the money fairy to pay me a visit so I can get a new computer.

the key pads underneath the buttons may need replaced-she might have mashed them.
or had sticky fingers.if it has a USB port,i'd get a standard keyboard and shut off the onboard one til i could fix it.

I thought about a USB keypad but it's an older laptop and the USB ports are 1.1. All the USB equipment is 2.0 these days and too fast for my old computers, they cannot handle the fast speed appliances. Such a pain when everything else is fine. I did remove the caps off the letters and clean underneath but it did not help.

Hi MsTickle

So I hope someone here can help you and I will be looking as you never know when you need that information
I do hope someone here can help you with this
It is strange though that your Laptop gets to hot in the Summer, are you sure the Fan is working ok on it?????

All the little one did was touch heaps of keys at the same time. I don't know that he caused the problem. As for the heat issue...I don't think a laptop has a fan. I was concerned when I first got it that it was very hot but the techie said that was normal and it would not burn anything or get so hot that it caught fire.

Yeah, apparently overheating is an issue with laptops as the internal fans clog up with lint. Mine comes on okay, it's just these darn few keys that type 6-7 letters at a time...hey, maybe next time I turn it on it will have fixed itself! That's what happened to this laptop when I spilt some lemon juice on the keyboard...it took about 4 weeks but it finally came good....lol.

Been fixing laptops and computers for many a year, my guess is the 2year old had wet hands or spilt something sticky on the keyboard, that would account for keystroke problem and cursor movement.
Stick it in the airing cupboard overnight, it will either work or not.
If that doesn't work, go online, find out how to remove keyboard on that particular model, wash it, dry it in airing cupboard and reassemble.
all the best urban

The cursor problem was on this laptop and seems to have righted itself. The other laptop is a back-up for when this one's not working - and vice versa. lol.
I pretty much decided that's what I'll do, thanks for the reassurance, hope it's as easy to do as you make it sound.
Cheers.

im sure keyboard has something to do with it. inside those keys are rubber facing up. imagine a baby bottles nipple. that's how it looks like inside those keys. once they're pressed so hard, it will push the upper portion of the rubber nipple a little inside touching the mainboard of the keyboard. this will make the connection seems like grounded that whenever you press one key, those connections that align with that key will appear as well. spilled water will not damage the laptop immediately (unless its a pail of water) because there is a filter design in every laptop that water will move towards the side of the laptop. you need a techie guy to open the keyboard and figure things out.

oh my. it does sound like the little one jammed the keys. to bad you cant get back to just useing a tower desktop type computer again. it does seem they last longer and are easier to use. i was on my laptop for 3 years and then just kept haveing problems with it. finally it got a virus couldnt seem to fix so i ended up buying this desktop from son. it seems easier to fix and dont over heat so quickly.

Hi MsTickle,
I am so sorry you are having so much problems with your laptop, that will driv me insane, I lost connetion once and I couldn't get it back on, so I shut it all down and was so annoyed, didn't know what to do so went to bed early, but I think you will need someone to come out to you or something, I haven't a clue what can be the problem, hope you'll get it sorted soon.

If I need to I will take it to be repaired but I'm pretty strapped for cash at the moment. It's time for car rego, insurance, house insurance, rates, power and phone. Also, I'm having to go to the physiotherapist once a week...there is simply not enough to go round at the moment.
That's why I posted here...hoping to fix it myself.

I'm not a computer expert by any stretch, however, I had a similar problem once. My step-daughter spilled something on my keyboard. Until it dried out, any key I tapped became a surprise as to what would happen. Usually several or repeating letters were the result, at least for the area that had become wet.
Not knowing the best way to dry it, I covered the keyboard with a filmy material and then poured dry rice to cover it. I'd read about using rice to dry out cell phones that had gotten wet, so hoped it would work for keyboards too. I left it for a couple of days allowing the rice to wick the moisture out. It worked! Keyboard was as good as new after that...thankfully. Is it possible the 2 year old spilled something or perhaps drooled on your keyboard? Maybe the rice idea would work for you too?

msTickle I know who would know the answers, my son the out of work computer programmer, So tell him his mom sent you and I will give you his email address lonewolf@well.com, I think he would love to help someone with a computer problem, as he is my go to person when something crops up on my own computer that I cannot remedy myself. I wish I could answer
your questions myself but am not that knowledgeable myself.Boy little fingers can really foul up a computer. One mom was mad at me when I told her two year old to leave the computer alone as it was not a toy, but when they foul computers up in a library they prevent a lot of older children from being able to use them for their homework. and moms are supposed to watch two year olds so they do not ruin a good computer. that one was really messed up and the repair man had to spend several hours undoing what the little brat had done.

It's so maddening Hatley, the minute I'm out of my chair this kid would be there and Mum says nothing. If it was my kid he'd be whopped on his padded backside and put in a naughty chair till he stopped doing it.
I'll try and email your son but I'm thinking my mail might go to his junk mail folder. Oh well, I can but try. Thanks mate.
