Actually I greatly admired poets, such a difficult job!being a poet is a gift!I mean not all writers can write poetry. Yes, poets have great future ahead of them even in todays world. Poetry is so rare now a days, it has no stiff competition in that field.

Hi there Aman Kapur! Well, I think it's hard for poets these days but when you're a poet, it doesn't matter that much. When you do something out of passion, usually, to just be able to share your creations will be enough.

In a word, no. Most poets have other sources of income. Many are college professors or teachers. Some have ordinary jobs. I published my book Cat-House Sonnets, 100 poems celebrating cats, not to earn a living, but for the satisfaction of doing something I love and do well. I broke even with my sales, now every sale is glorious. I enjoy writing sonnets about cats and do it even for no monetary reward.

I think that it is probably one of the toughest areas of writing to make money in but then again look at Maya Angelou. People who write great poetry are like people who rise to the top in any genre. They are successful. Be careful though. there seem to be a lot of scams out there for poets...companies who sill publish anything that anyone writes as long as they buy an anthology. Most of it is very poorly written and does an injustice to those who can really write poetry out there. Best of luck
