How do you use left overs? Any great recipe tips for left over food?

Do you have any special ways of using left overs for meals that saves money? My best tip for using left overs, would be to add left over rice and black beans into tacos. This makes the tacos more filling and satisfying than when served with just meat. And, the rice adds more nutrition. What's your best tip for using left overs? How do you recycle left overs into new and interesting meals?

my mom taught me now to waste food. so i learned from her to recycle the food that was left over. usually if it's like, for example "adobo" we tend to mix the meat of that with fried rice the next day. or if its chicken left over (roasted or fried) i make some sandwich with the chicken inside then just add some mayo if you like and cheese. another one we do is whenever we have lechon or roast pig in a party and we have some leftovers we cook it the next day with vinegar and some soysauce, i think we call it "paksiw."

I can't stand to throw away good food, so I try to recycle leftovers any way I can. I save cooked vegetables for soup. I keep a container in the freezer and add to it whenever I have cooked vegetables leftover from dinner. I use leftover chicken as pizza topping, on salads or to make chicken salad sandwiches. Even if it has barbecue sauce on it, then I make barbecue chicken salad (which is really good). Dried bread gets made into breadcrumbs, onions and peppers go into omelets......I could go on and on! Sometimes it's fun to find new ways to use leftovers and I come up with dishes that I might not have thought of, otherwise.

Generally speaking leftovers can usually be made into a soup, salad, casserole, or stir fry. My favorite things to add to anything to change it is cheese and salsa. Almost anything tastes good with salsa and cheese. Leftover beans, like pintos or black beans can be blended up as refries. If you have two or three left over beans, or say, beans, and corn (not green beans) mix them together and either put Italian dressing or salsa on them as a relish or side. I use tortillas that are past their prime and cut or tear them, spray with cooking spray and bake a few minutes until brown and crisp for chips. Left over breads go well in stuffing, unless they are sweet, then they become bread pudding. Left over meats can have sauces put on them so they can be a sandwich like a sloppy joe. Catsup, barbecue, or chili sauce works. It is good to not waste food.

I do what my mom did when I was little which is, heat it item up and set it on the table just as it was the last time we ate the dish and add a little of something else to the meal so that the left overs get eaten as well as the main course. Who ever got to the left over dish first gets to eat it or share if they wish. That way it doesn't go to waste and gets eaten at one point or another.

hie, i make fried rice with left over rice. i fried the rice with small onions, cut chillies, cut vegetables like cabbage, long beans, anchovies, a little salt fish , some kitchen herbs like sweet bassils and finally stir in an egg and add soya sauce and sprinkle with pepper. delicious. at other times , i make plain porridge with left over rice. and eat with condiments like cut spring onions, dried salt fish, salt eggs, fried onions and fried sliced ginger.

hi,first of all i would see that food is eaten not less than some 4 hours to its preparation;I see that nothing is left over. But sometimes due to many reasons it happens that there is left over.Rice can be made as Lemon rice, etc., I make some 5 variaties of the rice which is left over.I never like wasting.Sometimes if it is little bit then i give to crows ,they fill up.

Well lets see, I make meatloaf and then use the rest that is left over to make a sauce for speghetti. Or chili, I also slice and fry left over baked potatoes, I make potato patties out of left over mashed potatoes to fry and eat with my eggs of a morning. I never thought of the idea you used for the tacos, yes it would make them more filling and you could make burrios using that too. We have a lot of left over rice, my husband throws it out for the birds in the winter, they seem to love it. Did you know that rice can be frozen and thawed out to use again when you have made too much. Was news to me.Also the left over baked potatoes, you can cut a slit in top take out the potato part and add milk, butter and cheese and any thing else you like and refill the shells to make a total new item, just pop into the oven to get hot.

We usually have 4-5 people eating at our table for meals. So not a lot of opportunity for leftovers. But, the times we have left over chili. I make chili make. Quick and easy to just make up a box of mac n' cheese and stir in the chili. Heat and serve, yummy!

hi beautyqueen26 I used to take leftover mac and cheese and mix with leftover chili, and called it chili Mac, I was cooking for my self but my son found the leftovers from my chilimac a nd heated it in the microwave and said that was really good. Also I used to chop up leftover roast beef and add it to carrots, onions, green peppers, a little potato and some turnips and presto beef stew.Leftover veggies like peas and beans of all sorts can be added to romaine and made into a filling salad with some shredded cheese and ranchdressing, hidden Valley preferably.

I'm loving that beef stew idea. Had not thought about using left over roast beef for a beef stew. There's a lot that I don't know about cooking!

Mmmmmm some great ideas here, thanks! I always use left over pinto or kidney beans to make red beans and rice. It's my all time favorite leftover thing! I don't get to make it often though because my husband hates rice.

I have seen a lot of nice information over at the vickysdeals dot com site and their frugal section I know there is a thread by Nord or something like that she talks about left overs and how to use them the best ways etc. You should check it out they are full of great information!

I generally make soup out of leftovers. Just add some of your favorite broth, rice or pasta and some additional frozen vegetables to make a nice hearty soup. Another tip is to make pizza, depending on what your leftovers are. You can get frozen pizza dough in every supermarket and almost every household has spaghetti sauce lying around. This way you can invent your own favorite pizza. You can also make individual calzones and have family members customize their own.

I'm a big fan of soup. Using left over vegetables and meat for homemade soup would be very economical and money-saving. Thanks for the idea.

By far the easiest way to use up leftover veggies is in a soup. Of course, you could also add scraps of meat if you had them, and you would of course make a stock from the bones or carcass. I also add small quantities of leftover rice, pasta, beans, grains or similar to my soups at the end to give them a little more body. Or if there is a larger portion of those things then I use them to make a salad. I use up small portions of sauces and gravies the next time I make a meal which includes a mixture of veggies cooked together. I just add the sauce to the veg whilst they cook, then add whatever other flavourings I need. I made a pumpkin crumble last night for instance, and used some leftover white sauce with nettle which was left over from our pasta the evening before. I keep leftover bread that´s a little hard and either make paninis or croutons, or a bread and butter pudding. Sometimes I make a savoury pudding with onion and tomato or cheese, and sometimes I make it sweet with fruit and cinnamon. Breadcrumbs are saved for breadcrumbing meat or fish. I crumble up stale cake and use it on the bottom of cooked desserts. Tonight we´re having some poached pears with a chocolate sponge topping. I put some sliced up sponge cake on the bottom of the dish before I added the pears and they will soak up any extra syrup and draw it away from the sponge topping. Leftover cheese goes in a bag and is used up in cheese sauce. I´m sure there must be more things as nothing gets thrown out in this house, but I can´t think of them! I´ve got animals who will eat just about anything we don´t, but they don´t really get anything other than veg peelings as I recycle everything else.

I usually don't recycle leftovers, we just eat them like they are the next day. I'm not that creative in coming up with different things, I wished I could write my own recipes, but I can't..lol.

i remove the meat or chicken from the soup or gravy then add a little seasoning to it then roll it in to a little flour and deep fry it. I serve it with banana catsup or i make a veggie salad with it, then it is another new dish. My girls love fried food and veggie salad so i know they will enjoy it.

I love using left overs. Left over pot roast makes a great base for stew or sandwiches! Left over baked potatoes (baked with the roast) are great for making home fries. I just cut 'em up and mix in a little butter and onions and fry them in a skillet till they are brown. That's some good stuff! The extra potatoes are great to scramble with eggs too! Throw some onions, cheese, peppers and eggs in the skillet with the potatoes and cook until the eggs are done. mm.. making me hungry!

All fantastic ideas! I had never thought of using baked potatoes as the basis for home fries. Easier than trying to make them from scratch. And, the omelet idea sounds so yummy!

It's a lot easier than doing home fries from scratch! That's just too much work! And the omelet is great too! I love having that for breakfast. You could throw in other things like bacon if you like it, or sausage too!

Turkey is great for leftovers. First you have the baked turkey with all the fixings. Then make turkey sandwiches for lunch. Next you add potato, onions, celery and carrots and have turkey in gravy. You can later chop the meat off the bone and make turkey salad. Finally, throw the bones in a pot with veggies and have soup.
