I have to say as a non smoker that second hand smoke does bother me.I'm concerned for health and I feel a non smoker breathing in someone elses cigarette smoke,is like they are smoking it them selves.I don't allow smoking in my home at all.I like everything to be smoke free. What do you think about second hand smoke?

I know some people that have asthma and they cannot be around it.Smokers don't care if someone else breathes it in.My mother smokes her house outbut very happy I don't live with her.I don't go in her house because she doesn't care if her smoke bothers me.That's the same as me smoking then.

Yes it does bother me since I heard that it does affect you the same as a smoker. I avoid the smoker as much as possible, especially if I am commuting and someone is smoking (jeepneys).

I hate second hand smoke. I mean, if you want to kill yourself by smoking, then do it, but don't take us with you. I specially hate those who are walking and smoking that doesn't really bother to look behind them to see if there are people who are inhaling his smoke. there are just a lot of inconsiderate smokers in this world.

Yes it does. I am aware of the dangers of second hand smoke. It causes lung cancer. Just this morning, I heard that even third hand smoke is equally dangerous. Smoke that sticks to clothes, walls, curtains may cause cancer too.

In my experience, studies that claim that second hand smoke is unhealthy have been conducted by biased organizations. In saying that, though, I find it hard to believe it wouldn't be unhealthy. I've never smoked and when I'm around those who do I find it hard to breathe...then my throat gets extremely dry, I get dizzy, and I get a migraine. In extreme cases, my breathing gets so bad I get an asthma like effect that goes on and on for days. Back when I lived with my parents, my brother would smoke in the house (although my parents were completely against it, they couldn't always stop him as he had the complete opposite sleeping schedule as them), and after a few weeks of this I thought I actually had gotten asthma. I had to use my mom's inhaler quite a few times, which was the only thing keeping me from going to the hospital. I was always sick. Thankfully, a few months after this started I married and moved out into my own home...and within a month, I was healthy again.
Second hand smoke definitely does bother me, but not because I just hate the smell; it actually causes these body changes in me. I'm never one to complain when one smokes around me. It's usually easy to simply walk away. But when I couldn't get away from my own home, now THAT was misery.

Second hand smoke really bothers me when I an exposed to it. It just makes me light headed and dizzy. I have no doubt whatsoever that prolonged exposure would be much worse. I try and keep my distance from smokers when I can. The health issues, whatever they may be, are just too much for me.
If other people want to smoke, fine for them. It's there bodies, they can make their own decisions about what they put into it. However, have the common courtesy to respect my right that I do not want to be anywhere near your smoke. There is a reason why I do not smoke and being near second hand smoke is about as bad as smoking in many ways.

Most people around me just don't care for non-smokers. I mean smokers here..
Ah, yes I am much bothered by second hand smoking, to the point where I start feeling chest pain. But if the person smoking is a stranger, I don't interrupt them. Better to get away o.O

I'm a smoker but I also believe that nobody should have to breathe in smoke if they don't want to. I do not smoke in public and I don't even smoke in my own house--I don't want to harm my poor dogs! This winter has been great in helping me cut way back as I don't like to go out on the porch to smoke when it is cold and snowy.

I feel the same way. Second had smoke is disgusting to inhale and many smokers don't seem to care. Smoking is not allowed in my house. You want to smoke they need to go outside. I don't even like hugging or kissing a smoker. They don't realize how much they stink. They don't realize it till they stop smoking and realize what they were smelling like when they smoked. My mom has lung damage because she inhaled my fathers smoking for decades. I will never understand how a person wants to inhale poison into their system and pay at least 10 dollars to eventually make you sick or die. I call it down righ stupidty.

I hate second hand smoke - even moreso because I have two young children. But it's nearly impossible to shield them or me from it entirely because people smoke everywhere. We don't allow smoking in our place as well - but there are always neighbors who do smoke . . . and I can't make them smoke or make the wind stop blowing our way when they do. With all the things that happen to your lungs when you smoke, you'd think that would deter a person to smoke - but it obviously people still want to. I just wish they could smoke in a contained area so the rest of us don't have to get a whiff of it!

Hello,
I am a smoker. Though I have tried so many times to quit, I couldn't, as the people I had to spend most of my time with are almost all smokers. Every time I try to quit this second hand smoke revitalizes my urge and I get involved again. I know how pathetic it sounds. Now, that I am seriously considering quitting, I would first have to explain it to my friends and then stay away from them at least for couple of days.
Great discussion
Take care

I have had this same experience when I try to quit. Finally, I decided I would not be a quitter! lol
Seriously, it is very hard for people trying to quit to be around it. I also have known people who quit long ago, and they were the most adamant about people not smoking. Second hand smoke bothered them more than anyone. I have a feeling that whenever I get around to quitting, that will most likely be the way I am.

It bothered me at first but theres always more that bother me. Its kinda dwarfed by other factors and make the smoker a winner. Still I hate someone smoking in front of me but theres just many things that annoy me that it doesnt matter at all.

aside from the health hazard, it's just uncomfortable being in someone else's smoke. it's even more frustrating if the person smoking doesn't seem to care at all if you're uncomfortable. it's a good thing establishments like restaurants and airports have a designated smoking area. it helps a lot. ;-)

Second hand smoke is certainly bothersome to me. Anytime I get around someone who is smoking I feel like I cant breathe. I always say to each his own, and if that is what they want to do then that is fine, but when you are blatantly rude about it, I will say something. Like the other day at my job they have implemented a no smoking policy in front of the building. I thought great, perfect, but now I find that everyone gathers puffing smoke everywhere right in front of the elevator that comes out of the parking garage, so everyone has to walk through it. That is just ridiculous.

Second hand smoke really bothers everyone in my family. We are rarely around it unless we go to the grocery store or the mall and will see employees right outside the door smoking when they are supposed to be 20 feet away from the the front door of the building. I know that only because there is a sign posted right near the door when you walk in. I don't mind if people want to smoke but do they have to do it right near the door? It is rude. I tell my children to cover their nose with their hand until we are safely inside.
Sincerely in Christ,
Leesa C.

As far as I am concerned, I think the second hand smoke bother me so much. When I am at the domitory, there is a brother of mine will smoek a lot. Then the smell of the smoke deos matter me a lot. Then in the bus or some other place ,there also will some of my friends smoke. I do hope they can give up smoking ,which will contribute a lot to their health.

it does really bother me a lot especially that smoking is really bad for the health. The person smoking should also be alarmed and be considerate enough to the person next to him because it could be very annoying without him knowing about it.

I agree that second hand smoke is nasty. I grew up in a household of smokers and it was terrible how everything smelled. Because of that I've never even tried smoking.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to smoke or anything. It a decision that they make for themselves. I just feel that they should be aware that their habit effects others in a negative way.
