I read recently that there are a lot of people that are concerned about their dogs being lonely.
Dogs are pack animals and are used to having companions around them all the time. So it is not uncommon for a dog to feel lonely, it is part of his/her nature. However, it is a good idea to remedy the problem.
Many people don't think it is a good idea to have more than one dog, which is fine, but, it is a good idea to have another animal in the house to help the dog's stress level.
What are some ways you have helped your dog with being lonely? Did you get another dog? How about a cat? Maybe a rabbit?

Dogs/ animals can AnD do get lonely. This usually happens when a part of their normal life changes ie, when you go on a different shift. When u change any part of their routines and are away from home for a longer period of time.
So they do not get bored or lonely to the point that they will do different things to the house or their surroundings. Turn a radio on low just so that they can hear it. Or turn the TV on the same low volume. If you want to get another pet, that is something for you to deside. Do you have enough time for another pet..
REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE FOR YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

You are correct that is the hardest part for animals, is having to adjust to changes in your life.
The afternoons we spend a lot of time with our pets. We go for walks with the dogs play games with the cats and a lot of other things.
They are a part of our family and it is very important to us that we get quality time with them just like we do with our children.

Well, I do agree that you have a point there. Dogs likes companions. But for as long as the dog is being love and cared by its owner then the possibility of being lonely is quite remote. I do have dogs at home. Its a male and female, they do love each others company and are always playing.

My dog isn't lonely because there is always someone home for him.But I am gonna get him a companion that's his size,I'm getting a jack russell mix puppy.I did get a different puppy it was a pocket pitbull,it was a miniture pitbull. The puppy was too playful for him and kept trampling him and played too rough.I gave that puppy to my brother because he likes the breed.I'm gonna get a jack russell, that will work out better because it'll be his size.I do miss the other pup,but I have to get a dog apropriate for him to play.

Jack Russell terriers can be quite active dogs, my sister has one and wow, I don't know how she can keep up with him, the little guy is always on the go and boy can he jump. It is amazing how high he can get up to when he wants something.
They have had a problem with him eating things that he shouldn't. It got so bad that at one time they had their home puppy proofed.

I have noticed with our dogs, when I am home alone and after I have taken them for a walk or something, they will play for hours together and just do things. My older dog will take the younger one out in the yard and make her play games, it is the funniest thing to watch.

My dog's best pet, undoubtedly its ME!! lolz.
I have cat, love birds but you know am his best pet ever. His name is Champ and
he loves with me. I do all house works and he helps me out sometimes. And i know he will go low if i am away from home. My cat is good friend of him, though they gets some misunderstandings and turn face at each other. Champ never fights with me!

That is so nice that you are such good friends with your dog Champ. That is a great name for a dog.
Wow, has arguments with a cat. We have that in our house as well, our dogs will sometimes get into fights with our cats, but then a few hours later they are all cuddled together.
Animals are so fun!

Our dog is not lonely, two legged animals work as well and four to keep dogs company. Of course here on the ranch there is no lack of company for any of us.

I am sure living on a ranch you are probably there quite a bit. This was more about those who leave the house to go to work on a regular basis and the dogs are left at home by themselves.
However, you make a valid point, yes, 2 legged animals are great companions for the 4 legged variety. ;o)

When I first became a dog owner. I had one dog and a cat.. but my dog kept tearing up everything in the house.. And we figured out it WAS because he was lonely when we left for work.
We got a puppy who I always referred to as his dog.. And she was the medicine the doctor ordered.. He never chewed another thing because he was lonely.. He did however chew some stuff up when he was mad at me for being gone too long.. and of course I always felt guilty.. because I knew he was right. But I had the best 2 dogs EVER!
They have since gone on to the Rainbow Bridge.. But I now have 4 dogs.. and they have not known loneliness They have always been part of a pack.
We also have 14 cats.. and the dogs enjoy their company too. I think cats can work very well for some dogs. :-)

That's good now she will have someone to take care of. We had a cat that seemed lonely for a while, when we brought our puppy into our home, she did the same thing, she took care of the baby. She made sure he was clean and that he ate and even went outside when he was suppose to.
Animals can be such amazing creatures.

i have several of them, so i guess they won't be lonely. i don't want to take more dogs for now. their number is already more than enough to make noisy sounds when they are playing together. lol.
but if i had only one dog (which is impossible, since i almost always have a female pregnant dog), i would adopt another dog for its friend. i won't take cat, they are enemies by nature. i won't risk my plants, my furniture, my neighbors, etc, for another 'in house world war'. and i don't wanna take a rabbit since dog like to run after rabbits. the rabbit will soon die in fear if i adopt it.
