Seems like no matter what I do this thing just keeps running slow. It actually runs slower then XP and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to speed up this vista machine. I went into msconfig and stopped all the programs from starting up. That haleped a bit. I also stopped the automatic updates. I do this on a regular basis updates that is. But that hasn't helped much either. I am not worried about hacking the registry. So my question to you is do you know any tips or tweaks that will make this machine run faster?

it would help if you post you computer specs so that i can better gauge how to help you. i agree that vista is the slowest operating system built by microsoft because it needs a lot of processing power for things like airo and for other useless things built in the operating system. your computer either belongs to either of the following: really because slow parts since you bought it, has malware, has junk softwares installed. give me more information so i can figure out how to help you.

Hi Maxsee. I am so sorry it has taken me a couple of days to respond. But got busy on this computer trying to figure out how to reformat the drive so I can get rid of junk they put on it before I got it. I can't seem to find out how to format vista. They put a partition on here to run XP but I don't need that. I want to get rid of everything they put on here but just plain don't know how to do it. Any advice? I don't know how to find the specs on it yet. But if you will tell me how to find it I will tell you. Thanks for the help.

Have you tried degragging your hard disk. Maybe it has been months since your last defrag. Vista is the slowest operating system ever built in Microsoft. It didn't met the slogans they kept on boasting with that is faster, reliable and flexible. It wants more memory space. I don't blame you for complaining for its slow processing. Even when you just copy a certain file it takes about 5 min. Try also turning off you anti-virus if you have one because vista systems does lag when there are anti-viruses turning on. Best of Luck!

Hi Mykel. I am a computer geek. I always keep my computer cleaned out. This is a brand new machine. I was given this machine and it runs faster then when I got it. Just think XP is a better operating OEM. I have a defrag free program that does more then the one that comes installed on Vista. So the answer to your question is yes I do defrag. I am not used to vista yet. I have only had this machine a week. I like going through the registry and changing things to run the way I like it. (FAST)
