Reports are appearing that Nintendo plan to announce a new handheld at their upcoming media event. The Nintendo DS has been one of the most popular games machines of all time, and a new handheld from the same team has me very excited!
Rumours are that it will use the latest Nvidia chip, giving it far more graphical power than the DS or the rival PSP.
I can't wait!

hmm this is interesting although I would not say the psp is too much of a rival. One reason is that psp actually slowed down and stopped the production of its advantage over ds which was to be able to play movies thru the means of a disc. Now you have to save the movie on a memory stick and I believe sony doesnt make a lot of money through people buying memory sticks but some I will say.
Now I am curious at what the nintendo team is going to do that will involve a nvidia chip. It will for sure bring a whole new level on the handheld system gaming but it will also have a lot of hype that if one thing goes wrong you know people get mad at it going wrong. I am sure since it is nintendo we are talking about it will be a really good system and no flaws will be known for probably after year if any.
Like you I am very curious about this. If you have any more info on this post it up here.

Rumours are that it will use an nvidia Tegra or Tegra 2 chip, which if it is true will make it capable of graphics on par with the Wii - but in a handheld!
Another rumoured feature is an accelerometer, similar to that in the iphone, so allowing motion controlled games.

seems they are in a sense going to integrate the wii system in a handheld seeing that the last wii game I played, mario kart, had the motion controls. This seems very interesting and this should be a really fun system now that I think of it. Hahah I hope they find a way to make it have like a pedometer moder or something to do some quests in some games. That would be awesome and more realistic/interactive.

More news coming out today. It seems Nintendo have patented the idea of a vibrating stylus to use with a touch screen games system.

I wonder what would be Nintendo's reasons for bringing out a new handheld so soon. This seems to go against that they did with the Game Boy line of systems. I remember a documentary on the creator of the Game Boy, and someone at Nintendo said they could have released the GBA a lot sooner than they did. They help off on doing so because the Game Boy Color was still very popular, and had a ton of third party support still.
The PSP still doesn't have that one killer app that is supposed to put it over the top, and demolish Nintendo's market share when it comes to portable gaming. I doubt they would do this out of fear of a lone rival who is still lagging behind.
I don't trust roumors like this. I heard SEGA released a new console a few days ago. It turns out it was just a preloaded system with 20 or so Mega Drive titles on it. I already have all of those games, so finding out about this farse of a release made me a little sad. I'll believe the Nintendo news when they say or do something about it at one of the up coming media events.

I don't think it is the PSP Nintendo sees as a threat now, I think they are more worried about Apple.
The DS has been out since late 2004, so it will be 6 years old by the end of 2010. I know it has has a couple of updates, but it is basically still the same system.
