I received a request from some one in Chicago to be one of my myLot friends. He is what is strange on their profile it says he/she has never opened a discussion and never responded to a discussion but has 8033 myLot friends!!. Why on earth would anyone do this. What could be the purpose? Have you ever received such a strange friend's request?

I recieved two similar friend requests, one from Lotsika, in the last two days. I was suspicious of this activity and decided to decline, as neither had responded to any of my discussions or responses. I can only assume and agree with the suggestion that they are building a spam list or something to that effect.

No, I never had no one ask me for a friend request with such a strange profile. Maybe their building a list to sell something to you and the others who grant such a strange request. It's up to you if curious go ahead and grant the friend request if not ignore the request. ...

I was thinking to that too: building a big contact of friends and then send messages to them to sell something or promote something...

That's indeed very strange; with 8033 friends. I don't even have that many friends in my list either. Hmmmmm... maybe the purpose is to promote referral links or something.. or perhaps this user has lots of referrals?

I've never seen anything like that. I have seen a few really new newbies, but never a brand new member with so little content, and so many friends.

Hi Heather. I wouldn't know if I've ever received a friend's request like that as I never pay any attention to it. I tend to just hit the accept button whenever someone sends a friend request my way. Maybe this person is trying to accumulate friends on here like some do on myspace and facebook. Who knows? I wouldn't be too concerned with it though as it's probably something innocent anyway. Happy mylotting!

I wasn't concerned just curious. However it doesn't matter now as he seems have had his profile removed by myLot admin.

No, I have not receive any request from this odd character here. I hope he request for good intention and not trying to rate others negatively.

I have seen this happen and it's rather strange. One that I've seen is, I think, associated with the tasks section but I've never received communications from that person. Maybe they are people that have thought of earning here but never got any further than making a bunch of friends.

I think I may have just worked it out. It is possible that these guys are data-mining - basically, they use friendship status to keep track of what you post, and then gather the information you post in discussions to research for anything useful. This could be done for many reasons, ranging from identity-theft to ordinary research, but whatever the case, it seems a bit sinister to me.

Now that is a really scary thought. His ID was "Lotsika" maybe is should have been "LotsIsSick"
