As some of you mylot-ers may know, I am moving out of state soon to a very metropolitan area. I am a little worried about finding my way around and have been thinking about getting a GPS thing to keep in my car. I don't know anyone who has one, so I'm lookng for some advice from some people who do. w

I have a magellan which I alternately use with the car or the van, depending on which one I'm driving. It is very useful for my work, as I always have to use it when I drive to see suppliers within the state. I've also used it with the family when we went to Disneyland last year. It is not only useful for finding directions, but also helps finding specific stores or restaurants. It even helps decide which one is closer.
I recommend getting one.

We have a garmin gps, it has come in handy a lot of times but, ours always wants to go on the interstate, when there are much shorter routes that could be taken. And sometimes it has lead us to roads that ends up no where. My husband has wanted to throw the thing out many times.

Yeah our car just recently got a GPS system because I got one for my girlfriend's valentine's day present. It works pretty well and we used it for the first time on Valentine's Day weekend as well. I would recommend you getting one especially if you are moving to a fairly large city that you're unfamiliar with.
I don't believe you have to pay for service with GPS systems or at least we don't have to pay for mine. I got my GPS off of clubbing by saving up enough tickets. I'm not sure how much longer they'll have it as a prize but you could possibly check it out.

My car came with one when we bought it, it is great. But you have to be careful, it will send you the path it wants you to take. We were coming back from a trip and I knew about where I needed to turn, well it kept telling me to take this other turn, so I passed it up knowing it was not correct. It kept showing me to turn right, so I finally said, maybe it is shorter to go that way. Was I wrong, it took me out in the middle of nowhere, and added an extra 2 hours on my trip home. So sometimes, you need to use your own judgement and not always follow the GPS.

Yeah,I think GPS syatem is a very good equipment and I love it a lot. I am a person lost my way easily especially in a unfamiliar place. But I don't put a GPS system im my car and I just use a cell phone which has GPS to guide me.Because I don't drive often so the cell phone is enough for me.

We have a GPS for our van. We bought it a few years ago for when we go on vacations and trips. It has worked well for us so far and saved us from getting lost a few times. When we were looking to buy one we read the reviews on all the brands. Garmin seemed to have the best reviews. It is a little more expensive i think, but you can usually pick things like that up cheaper on ebay. I think it would help you get around pretty well till you learn your way around.

Hi,Yes we have a Garmin,we use it regularly for trips and my husband has to have it for his work to locate jobs he has to do.It worth buying yes.No you dont have to pay for service you just make sure it charged or plug it into the outlet in your car and turn it on. You have to use the correct spelling on some of the locations. We love ours its been very helpful, and we dont get lost in places we dont know very well away from home.

I have put GPS in my car. We are foreigners here in America, so we can easy lost in ways, and GPS is very helpful. We buy GPS from the website, not from the phone, it just one time paid you can use all life time.
But if you buy a GPS, I think you should familiar with it first, you may be very confused when you first time you use it. but if you familiar with it, it will become very useful, especially when you come a new place!

I put GPS on my car if I'm on the other country because I don't know their place. Last year my GPS broke because my sister's niece played with, so I have to buy a new one.

GPS are wonderful to have! I have one loaded on my laptop for the RV and also in my car. I do not pay a monthly fee but as for future updates for mapsand such, I'm not sure as I haven't owned it a year yet. I would recommend buying on but check for the features you want. There are several brands, I have a garmin but my mother swears by tomtom. On the other hand my son has one and can't follow the directions to save his soul! Fortunately, if you miss a turn it will recalculate the route for you. Good luck on your move.
