Do you think that to learn new language is difficult?
the most difficult for me is the usage of the words. I am keen on learning Japanese but i think the grammar is a bit difficult. The most difficult is when you are required to read words in Kanji.
anybody has difficulties as well in learning new language? how do you deal with it?
thanks. Arigatou Gozaimasu.^^

I tried to learn how to speak Japanese a few years ago and I found it really difficult so I quit. I see the same thing with my student when I would have to teach English as their second language. Learning a new language is difficult especially if its your first step. But it all matters on your attitude anyway. If you are persistent then it wouldn't be that difficult.

I plan to be a Japanese Interpreter so I have to study even harder since I haven't had any classes since before college. Although, I have found that if you make Japanese friends, go to regular classes, and try to learn a couple words a day it will become easier. You have to study really hard and it doesn't show right away but you'll start to use it more with your Japanese friends and they will help correct you as well as tell you proper slang.

hello cintoy,
I always want to learn other language, and it needs patience and dedication.
I had friends that were teaching me Hindi words, but, since it is not an actual teaching,it is really hard for me to practice and use the right words, grammar in particular.
There are schools that offer special language courses, but,i don't have extra money to spend for it.
As of now,i am relying for friends who are willing to teach me word for word.
I hope to learn more someday too, since my Indian friend here in our place is also busy with works and we seldom meet, that, they can't teach me their language for long hours.

Practice makes perfect. I have friends who speak Japanese and most of them learn to speak when they were in Japan. Some studied but they forget about it as soon as they finish schooling. You have to find a way to practice what you have learned in the classroom on your day to day dealings and with someone. Otherwise it's just going to be a waste of time and money. Cheers!

yea, learning a new language is usually difficult!
It depends on your purpose, if just for exams, then maybe not so difficult. Just remember enough words and get some dogmatic practice.
If you really need it for communication, then you need lots of practical conversations.
I majored in english, so school education helped me. The same with Japanese. I learnt Estonian in some informal way, it is not systematic, and it is very basic.
If condition allows, I hope you get some systematic learning.

For me it's not hard but the hardest is that the usage of grammar rule. If we always follow this steps I think is hard to learn quickly about the language that we want to learn about...
This is confuse me about, cintoy. Are you Filipino or Chinese?

Most of us will have a difficult time to learn new languages. I am also a person who wants to learn a new language since my hubby is Indian, they speak Hindi, Konkani and Bengali. Imagine that 3 languages will make me dizzy. So one at a time, I decided to learn Hindi first.
It is difficult to read through books. My best option is to go to an institute or school that offers such, but I haven't seen yet. Hubby does not have the time to assist me on my learning curve because he is also working. So most of the time, I self study, but it is insufficient. I need inter action, it will be my best tool to learn even more.
So if you have to learn Japanese, it is still best to consider other options aside from depending on a book, because it will always be hard and sadly, you are also not doing it right specially on the way to pronounce those words right.

yeah.. you are so right. The most quick learning process is through communication. When you communicate, you improve almost every aspect of the language.. grammar, vocab, listening, speaking and comprehension.
good luck with your learning of Hindi. You should force your hubby to communicate using Hindi. ^^

I haven't had much difficulty in learning the Scandanavian languages and Dutch.. However, I'm not sure how it would be learning other languages that I have no prior knowledge of their language and grammar structure.

I think it is harder for some people yo learn for example me, my husband is from Mexico and we have been together going on 8 years, wheewww Where did the time go? Anyway I understand most of it but it is very difficult for me to learn to speak it but I keep trying. I think I am and have not put time into learning it like I should have.

You need to practice speaking it all the time or you will never be able to master it. You practice learning it all the time and that's why you are able to listen and understand it.
However hard it is, try to speak it everytime. you will be able to master it in a few months only.

I really like Latin.
The old language of the Romans.
That interests me a lot.
The grammar is not that hard but it is sort of backwards with the way we speak in England.
Once you think in that manner it is easier.
I think French grammar is similarly structured.
In School we learned french for a long time 7 years for me and yet I know hardly any french because it was such a strange way to learn, all written down and lots of spelling and translating phrases. We really would have been better putting the books away and interacting.
I don't know how they learn languages in Holland but there they seem to have a good mastery of German ,french,English and Nederlands(dutch),even people who are in quite basic jobs.
In England that would be very unusual.

well not exactly spelled backwards but in English the adjective(describing word) comes first and the object(subject of the sentence) second so we have 'the blue sky' etc but in Latin it is 'the sky blue' just like in french also sentences seem muddled for example 'the men were working in the fields 'becomes 'the men in the fields worked' which reminds me of yoda from star wars.

Magandang gabi sa iyo aking kaibigan! (Good evening to you my friend)--filipino translated to English.
You know I have a friend that works in a call center and who happened to be my colleague last month in a special project of Department of Social Welfare and Development... HE IS A CERTIFIED BILINGUAL. And he told me that to much effort is needed to learn new language/s however if you are determined enough to achieve it, though hard but enjoyable. Do not count how many times you got wrong, take time in counting how much you have learned and keep on learning more!!!
And in my case, I want to learn Japanese too as well read their writings, but I am concentrating on my English first... here in our country English is our second dialect and most of our subjects in school from graders to college are mostly written and taught in English... And like you, grammar and terms should be studied with effort specially that I am not really an English speaking kind of person unlike many of my friends.
I experienced difficulty in using many of English terms, e.g. tremble and chill somehow sounds the same (yes they are synonyms) but has different usage. If you would say the area is freezing, and you tremble or chill? which of the two words is the right term for it...? and I have just known it later when my work was returned because of the wrong usage of terms...
God bless and Good luck... LOL

Konichiwa... (same meaning) --japanese LOL
yeah. it shouldn't be that hard with lots of effort and determination, everything should be easy.
Same with you, English is not spoken in daily life here, so every school are having English as a lesson.
keep on learning!! Trust that you got the spirit to learn.

It is never difficult to learn new language if you learn it by dedication and a will to understand. You can learn it by having a book which can translate that language into your language and taking this as a reference, learning a new language will become a lot easier. I had a class teacher who used to learn Chinese. She was fond of speaking Chinese, and for that instead of going to some classes, she just used to have a book of translation and grammar of that language and used to learn it by herself!!

haha.. every new language is hard to pronounce clearly and correctly. well, that's because every people will have their own native language intonation culture and to learn new language means to apply the intonation into the new language which will sometimes sound funny.

Yes it's too difficult to learn some language. Now i am learning Chinese language. Really difficult to learn. The character is more difficult. I think this is the most difficult language in this world. I also know some other language they are not so difficult for me. Some of my Chinese friend they also agree with me that this is the most difficult language. But interesting.

Yeah. I admit that Chinese has the most difficult language in the world. In my comprehension to this language, every words has its own particular meaning and if you mistakenly add a dot or scratch in any place around the word, the meaning change drastically. ^^
the words consists of tens of thousands and keeps on adding up to now since the technology is getting improved and to comprehend the new term in technology, they will come up with new word. (Hope i didn't get it wrong^^)
It is interesting for me as well.

Quite. I want to learn Japanese but I find it quite hard, especially that I have no enough time learning it.
Good thing you are keen on learning Japanese, that's a very good starting point. Just pursue it and I'm pretty sure you'll succeed.
It's quite hard but if one is really interested and determined, the boredom and hardships of learning will be alleviated. Keep your passion for learning afire and you'll surely go far.
Good Luck!,.
