What Is You Opinion Of Lexmark Printers?

My wonderful in-laws have bought me a new 4-in-1 wireless Lexmark Printer, the X6650, which looks like it came out in the USA before the UK. Lexmark being an American company, this kinda makes sense lol.
Anyway, reviews are definitely "mixed" regarding this printer. The fact that it has 4-in-1 functionality suggests to me that there is more to go wrong with it! I have also heard that the ink cartridges do not last long (especially if photographs are printed) and are very expensive. However, we are getting vouchers for money off the ink so that's not so bad...for now at least.
What worries me is that the in-laws have bought this printer from Tesco.com, one of my pet-hate companies. It is £87.23 cheaper than it should have been. What also worries me is that it is a new printer, so why are they reducing it so soon after it came out?
If anyone can put my mind at rest about this printer (John is due to pick it up from his Mum's tonight) then please feel free to do so.
If I hear lots of bad things about it suring this discussion...and if I don't like using it for whatever reason - I've already told hubby that it's going back and I'll have an HP instead, which is what I have now. For goodness sake the HP is not working now but I've had it since 2003!

Over to you my friends, please tell me what you think...even if it's negative!

Hey friend. I think you HP printer needs servicing. I can't opine about the Lexmark series. But I can tell a lot about HP that it is a good brand with quality. Let's hope for the best. May be you can use Canon printer. Have a nice day.

Hey friend! You didn't mention if the warranty period is over or not. If yes, then you should discard it and if not you should contact the vendor asap. Have a nice day.

Well, we printed something off from the Lexmark earlier and I have to say the quality is well down on my HP...but I'm stuck with it now so that's that. Maybe I could throw it down the stairs or something lol.

I would hazard a guess that Tesco’s have got an introductory offer going to try and promote the new printer and it will probably return to a higher price in a month or so. I will admit that I am not a fan of Lexmark purely because in my experience they drink ink at a stupid rate. But as for the actual functionality they are pretty good and are also reliable, although print quality is still not quite as good as more recognizable long standing brands if you are wanting to print photos.
Personally I would either go for an HP or a Canon if you got the choice, especially as there are some very good 4 in 1 models from both at excellent prices.

Yes, my current printer is a 3-in-1 HP and is very good. Unfortunately, it has packed up working and it would work out cheaper to buy another one anyway. I have hinted lots of times to the in-laws that I want an HP but, of course, it's fallen on deaf ears and they have gone for the Lexmark instead. I don't agree with them ordering it online from Tesco.com either. I'd much prefer to pile down to Comet or PC World and make my own mind up, thanks. Keeps them in work too!

I am sooo angry and my feelings about Tesco.com are justified! Why? Because the Lexmark printer is now DISCONTINUED on their site. No wonder I couldn't find it anywhere else just to compare prices and the like...and no wonder it was so cheap. I should've known!
Damn cheek! When my brother comes up trumps with some money for my birthday I'm off down to PC World to purchase the HP equivalent of the Lexmark, which is what we should've done in the first place.
By the way, the print quality is appalling on the Lexmark. My HP printer that I'd had since 2003 (now broken) had better print quality than this piece of junk.
Never again!!
Grrrrr!

All I can say is that I have bought electrical goods from Tesco before, not a printer, but DVD player and some other computer stuff, and they have been fine. On one occasion the DVD player stopped working and they exchanged it no problem and provided me with another new one off the shelf. They also said that I could have a full refund if I preferred. But I wanted the DVD and took that and it has been fine ever since. _Derek

Well, that's good. Like I said if I don't like it I'll ask the in-laws to get an HP instead, which is what I wanted in the first place!

I have had a few Lexmark Printers, and I really don't like them at all. Maybe I am spoiled though, because I got a professional Epson Photo Printer on sale when a local store went out of business. It prints so beautifully that the Lexmark I have hooked up to the other computer just seems terrible beside it. I do use it to print forms, letters, etc... when all I need is black or when quality isn't important. I also hate it that the ink costs so much! Not using it for photos though has helped with that. The ink lasts a lot longer when it is just being used for the basics...Also, The copy and scan functions on my Lexmark work wonderfully, and that is why I keep it hooked up. I do hope your new printer helps you out at least until you can get something better. :)

Hello there! Thank you for your informative response, it is much appreciated, especially since you have actually used Lexmark Printers and know what they are about.
Funnily enough, you mention the scanner feature and hubby used it earlier (in relation to an online application form I had filled in) and I must say, I was impressed with it.
However, the printing of COLOURS leaves a lot to be desired! I was so depressed because there was an HP 4-in-1 printer like the Lexmark on offer at PC World and I wanted it sooo badly...but now it's too late! I have the Lexmark and that's it!
At least we have fiver off ink vouchers...loads of them...which indicates to me just how long the ink lasts, er, not very long lol.
