What do you eat for breakfast? I was born and raised in the south. I was raised eating grits, eggs, ham, sausage, bacon, biscuits, etc., for breakfast, not all in one meal. (B.K.A. Country Breakfast). Now that I have gotten elderly my body and my health can't cope with that type of food. I have high cholesterol, high blood pressure. Now I really don't know what to eat for breakfast. I have done a lot of research on this and I still can't come up with anything I really like.
What do you eat for breakfast?
What would you consider as a healthy breakfast?

A good breakfast should be fairly light unless you are very active. You should include fruit or fruit juice (did you know that an apple is much more effective at waking you up than a cup of coffee?) and a whole-grain cereal. Oats are very good and help to reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. You can either eat them cooked as porridge or in a muesli mix with dried fruit, nuts and seeds. Nuts and seeds, in particular, are particularly beneficial in reducing cholesterol and oats and other whole grains are slower at releasing carbohydrates than, for example, white bread and potatoes.
You can sweeten the cereal with a little natural sugar or honey and you should avoid the heavily processed, pre-sweetened breakfast cereals. I am very dubious about the long term health risks associated with artificial sweeteners and I would always prefer to merely reduce the quantity of refined sugars (and one's taste for them).

Yep, Apples are far better at getting you going than coffee and they are healthy too. No one should believe the hype about coffee being healthy. People should also not be buying or consuming anything that is labelled as sugar. Very bad! Natural sweeteners like honey, dates and fruit are better, but should still be taken in moderation.

I do EAS low carb protein shakes alot of days for breakfast. It isn't my favorite meal of the day anyway, but I know I need something so the shake works great. They have 17 grams of protein and only 4 carbs. I believe its only 3 grams of fat, so not too bad there either.
My doctors have said whole grain waffles with sugar free syrup isn't bad for people, even diabetics. Whole wheat toast might be an option.
Good luck finding something you enjoy and is healthy.

My daughter and I do protein shakes sometimes too. I haven't bought EAS but I always look for a good quality, unsweetened, undenatured whey powder and then I put in fruit, maybe some flax oil and a bit of wheat germ. Sometimes a bit of honey as well. Blend the works together with some skim milk.

What about cereals? I like Special K a lot. Or else a cup of tea and some toast. Or a bowl of fruit? Have you ever consulted a dietician or else did some kind of research online to check what type of food is best for you?

Would Fiber One cereal work for you? The taste isn't that bad. You can even add some kind of fruit to it as well. Over the years I've eaten different things for breakfast. When I was a kid, probably cereal the most. Then vegetarian sausage because it really does taste good. Then I would make myself fat free pancakes, and then later turkey sausage. We never grew up having a heavy breakfast, so I guess I never made breakfast a big deal. At one point I would have a grapefruit for breakfast. Now that I think of it, a grapefruit sounds good.

Orange juice, whole wheat toast, whole wheat waffles or pancakes, eggs, banana, bran cereal (just nothing with all that sugar), or just plain old fruit of any kind. These are all healthy. (I sometimes eat nothing but fresh fruit for breakfast. Doesn't weigh me down and gives me a bunch of energy.)
Eggs, they once said were bad for us, the yolks, anyway. Now, they're good for us. You know how it is, eventually everything we eat will be bad, then good or at least okay to eat.
The stuff to stay away from, mostly, are those fat-filled meats. My husband LOVES all that stuff you mentioned, bacon, sausage, ham, any kind of beef, and his cholesterol was 338 the last time he checked it. He hasn't changed his diet, either. He still thinks he's invincible and he just turned 50 last Friday. Stupid man!

You need to get rid of the processed meats, except for special occasions. I do too, but cannot convince my husband of that. We would eat sausages etc. for every meal, both high in fat and high in salt and preservatives. Most guidelines say you can have one egg a day, but you may want to switch that to alternate days. Oats are supposed to be good for your cholesterol, so that would be oatmeal, granola or cheerios cereal. A good oat bread toasted with a healthy spread.Stir some oatmeal into your pancake batter. One percent fat milk is good for you. Bake an apple in the microwave, and put cinnamon on it. There are days when I really do not want to eat anything healthy at all. I will scramble an egg and put just a tablespoon full or less of bacon bits in the egg, along with peppers and onions, a sprinkle of cheese. I was told that cutting out cheese would lower cholesterol and increasing exercise. This time of year nothing sounds really good to me.

Since I am watching my weight and trying to eat better, I say there is nothing better than a nice fruit salad for breakfast. Especially if it has citrus fruit to help cleanse your system a bit after you have been asleep.

I do a lot of things for breakfast. Oatmeal is always a good choice. I like to add walnuts or almonds. Then some fruit like blueberries or strawberries. That's a well balanced meal with protein, whole grains, and fruit! There are also some good whole grain cereals that are wonderful. I personally eat a slice of whole grain toast with natural peanut butter! .. thanks you made me hungry!

I am not surprised that you have high cholesterol and high blood pressure after eating that for breakfast. I am going away to an archery competition this weekend and this is the type of thing that they serve for breakfast there. I just cringe when I see all of these people hoeing into these so called foods.
High cholesterol is considered normal here these days. My parents are on tablets for it and they said that most of their friends are on them too. It is a huge problem. Society is being conned into eating this stuff as the meat companies and pharmaceutical companies are linked together along with the governments in a grand scheme to keep everyone sick.
A healthy breakfast to me is what I have most mornings. I have a big smoothie with bananas, blueberries, raspberries, dates, rice protein powder, with either home made almond milk, or cashews and filtered water. I sometimes add pineapple, Goji berries, some other superfood powders, or some leafy greens like spinach. YUMMO!

Well, my friend. I eat my favourites such as roti/bread, egg, meat, tea/coffee, fruit juice etc. for breakfast. According to researchers breakfast must contain cereals like wheat, barley, corn, oat and vegetables or salads if you like to lose weight. Foods that contain vitamin C such as oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, and limes help reduce weight. You can try them. Have a nice eating.

Well, as far I can view your breakfast lifestyle when you are still young. The kind of meals that you eat are most of foods that has many contribution level for cholesterol, sodium, and preservatives under chemical substances induced in food for better preservation and taste like ham, bacon and sausages.
Egg is good but must be limited only for twice a week. Especially if you are on the elderly stage. The high albumin and yolk contents do contribute to give high cholesterol level.
I suggest that you try to eat oat meals, vegetables and fresh fruits everyday. Having meat like fish and chicken has less fatty contents that beef and pork. At least 100gram of meat is good per day. This will help reduce your cholesterol level and blood pressure.
The fruits has amino acids that can detoxify and degrade bad substances in the body. It also serves as source of rich vitamins good for digestion and helps reduce cholesterol level.
A healthy exercise will also decrease your high blood pressure and cholesterol problem. Sweating or perspiration is a good sign. Taking lots of water will also neutralize the chemicals and too much sugar or fats in the body. IT helps wash out some waste. If you have no ulcer problems. Pineapple juice once a day is a good source of fiber and reduce cholesterol level. The phytochemical substances will help you eliminate the toxic substances stored in your body for many years.

I have a meat eater husband who would also have eggs for breakfast everyday. I worry about his cholesterol so I make him something called a breakfast strata. It's basically an egg casserole but I make it healthier by using the cholesterol free egg substitute. I also brown and crumble some turkey sausage or lean ham to put in the bottom. Whisk the egg stuff with some Dijon, worchestershire sauce, pinch of salt and some pepper. Pour over the meat, top with some shredded light cheese. Bake until for about 45 minutes. Now he has a relatively healthy but hearty breakfast ready to go in the morning.

I normally eat corn flakes cereal, toast, or a fruit or vegetable. OCCASIONALLY i have plain yogurt too. To drink, I usually have milk. In summer, I occasionally have various juices...normally strawberry or peach.
These are pretty healthy breakfasts.
ALTHOUGH, for suggestions...I can say that oatmeal's very good for you, and you can add all sorts of things to it. Like berries, cinnamon, nuts, yogurt, etc.

How about some hot-dog rolls, some cheese and toasted bread or boiled eggs. Oh yeah, depending on your choice of beverage of either coffee or tea or just orange juice. My sister used to write her menu meals; the 3 meals per day menu and that's just awesome, LOL..

Unfortunately all the things I like to eat for breakfast are the things you described. Except for grits. I don't know how anyone can eat grits, they are not of my liking
How about cereal, like Cheerios? They claim they can help lower cholesterol. A bowl of cereal and perhaps a glass of juice and maybe some toast?

Hey chevee! I am not a breakfast eater so I can only tell you
what my friends eat! And I will tell you what the ones who do
have high blood pressure and high cholesterol eat. They eat
cereal with low fat milk and fruit. Or oat meal is one the the
best things to eat, although I can't stand it! You can eat
an omelet with just the egg whites, which my Mom eats! You just
have to stay away from eating eggs too often and forget the
bacon or ham except for once in awhile! You can eat whole wheat
toast with marjorine or jam if you like that! I love eggs
and only eat them once in awhile. If you just watch your
diet of the "bad stuff" you will be ok!

I was raised to eat rice and viand here in my country but when I grew older, I didnt like eating rice anymore. I eat eggs and bread, the same kind of food that you eat. I tried to experiment on ham, eggs, white onions, cheese, and green bell pepper and it was good. Just scramble the eggs and put in all the other ingredients and put it in a pan and fry(not deep fry). I like it and my husband likes it too. You might wanna try it. =)
