Does love make you a poet

I read a poem saying that "At the touch of love everyone becomes a poet". I can't say I agree to it though. When we get in love we usually get our emotions mixed up. We tend to express that emotion by expressing it either in writing, singing, dancing and etc. We do see people change when they fall in love like doing the tasks they hate that is one fact I know of. But there are some poems that are in despair and in misery not through love but through loss and death. Good quote though but not everyone's a poet.

Hi nykel!
I think any positive feeling like love could make a person poet. I think if someone is in love, s/he gets a kind of inspiration from her/his 'muse' to write poetry. Until and unless there is an 'inspiration', one cannot compose poems.
What are your own thoughts on this issue?

Hello, Nykel. Yes, it's a very good quote, and I think there is some truth in it. I write poetry, but I can't just sit down and dash off a poem. I have to feel strongly about the subject. Don't get me wrong, I can construct a poem anytime about anything, and it would scan well and rhyme, but it wouldn't be a good poem, because there'd be no depth of feeling in it, and that would be obvious to the reader.
My best poems have been written for people I care about - and the very best one I ever wrote was for the man I love, so I would say, love may not make you a poet, but it certainly helps.

Some people suddenly become poetic when they are head to heel in love. Their words become flowery and they always feel they are in cloud 9 all the time. I was once there and I know the beautiful feelings of being in love. It is not surprising that love can mellow down a hardcore criminal. It must be the flow of adrenalin in the body that keeps the blood rushing madly in all directions along the veins. It keeps the heart stirring all the time when in love.

i agree that if a person is in love or even just only inspire with someone.. they can be poetic in there own way..
I can say that in poem they can express there feeling... i might done it before with someone i admire just to express...
So that's it...

For me it's more like, at the touch of heartbreak, I become a poet. When I was in highschool, I wrote like a hundred poems but most of them are of heartbreaks. I think I write better when I feel grief, or hurt, or loss. The poem is just more emotional and more personal, rather than if I'm just in love or happy. Until now when I try to read back my poems, I can still feel the hurt that I felt back then.

I am not a poet, and have never learn to appreciate poems. Not even love can make me want to write poems. However, I find that love does make me become very eloquent with words, which sometimes I am even startled by it. I guess when one falls in love, he wants to pour out his feelings to his loved one, and that probably makes him become a poet, or become more eloquent.

You don't literally take that statement on its face value.
When people are inlove, their emotions are not as ordinary as it may be. Their senses are heightened to such degrees that their perspective towards things would also change. Such improved understanding towards the things around them is one of the poet's characteristics.
It doesn't necessarily mean that when people are inlove, their ability to link words into a lyrical narrative or compose their ideas into rhyme schemes have instantly became a skill that they possess.

hello! i would say YES because i do write poems easily when love is the issue. of course, we love because we have life and also live for love.
to sum it up, both love and life make me a poet or shall i say poetess.
surely, not everyone is a poet or else the world would become strange. LOL

I'd like to say "unrequited love" makes one a poet. Oftentimes we are able to express our emotions through poetry when we desire something. When we are in love with someone or something out of reach, is when we are at our peak.
However when we have attained our desires, we tend top lose the fantasy and the angst that fuel our emotions.
But love in itself gives everyone a reason to try being poets.
