I am sick and tired of seeing other people with money ignoring poor homeless people begging for money and just passing through them like animals in the street without noticing them begging for money from them. I just don't get it why people with money are like this? I feel so sad and hopeless for these poor people in the streets without people to help them. I just don't get it why rich people just simply ignore them not even a cent or 1 peso to give them? :(

well, the rich think they are the 'in' ones and believe they are rich forever. little do they realise that wealth and riches can be gone the next day.in fact, some quarters believe the first generation build, the second generation renovate and the third generation pulls it down. to some people, wealth and riches cannot last more than 3 generations. has anyone done a survey or study on this. i believe that if we walk right with God, wealth and blessings last from generations to generations on and on. some rich people think the poor are poor because, they the poor, are lazy and dirty or its their karma and should not be helped. so sad and what sort of thinking and philosophy? the poor are human beings too and need help to stand up and to earn a decent living. i believe the state and the government plus the communities need to tackle this issue of poverty and beggers on the street. take them in and train them up in their areas of interest.they also deserve love and kindness. the church in particular has the feeding the poor programe and also has clinics for the poor. some even has home for street kids, abandoned kids and kids from broken homes. some has old folks home too, for single mothers, widows and widowers abandoned by their children or neglected by others. if these churches do not take care of these folks, these poor kids and folks will be on the streets. have a heart and help these simple poor folks by helping them.

in the first place, there are some laws prohibiting children to get on the streets just like that. well actually, the law provides protection to them. in fact, they seem to abuse these children so whoever is responsible for these kids should face the law. going back to rich people ignoring poor people. not all beggars in the streets of manila and in any other places in the country, are true blood poor. there are still some abusive people who uses these poor people to beg for money, for their own advantage.

Because some of them are just fooling around, they used there situation to beg for money and not for food. Some parents even pushes there children to beg for there own vices. I am done with those people because I have been fooled many times. I gave them money because they said that they didn't have a lunch yet and she even carries her new born baby. But when I see her on the next day, she was smoking and holding a bottle of rugby and letting her younger child holding the new born. Those people are really annoying so the next time that I gave to such people, I gave food instead of money.

In some areas, homelessness is such a problem that people just HAVE to ignore them, because if they paid one homeless person any attention, they would have to pay attention to the dozens of homeless around them too
It sucks, and it makes me feel so grateful for the privileged life I have

I understand why you feel that way for them. I also feel the same way for them. I used to give these people alms as I thought doing that means helping them. However, everything changed when I got involved in Charity organizations and NGOs. I used to be a volunteer for NGOs helping needy people. It was there I learned that if we want to help these people we need to do this through the government and private institutions helping them. If you will just give them a $2.00 or even $10.00 it will not change there life. It could help them for one day however, it would just end there and they'll still be back to begging in the streets. You are not sure also if these people especially the children are begging in the streets for money for their selves or for someone else like a syndicate or for their lazy parents who don't want to work. Instead of getting a decent job and sending their children to school they send their children to the streets to beg for money.

I also don't like people behaving harsh with the poor people. I just think that if someone don't like poor people they should ignore them instead behaving badly to them. One may not like something that is simply his own wish but that does not mean they have the right to behave badly.

I never give to beggers on the street
the reason being is not all beggers are actually homeless there has been a few crinimal cases where beggers who were supposed to be on the street were making a lot of money off people giving them money then they were driving home in their bmw's etc etc
so personally I don't give money to them, in our city there are legitimate ways for homeless people to make money and sustain themselves rather than begging.
One of the best ways is selling a magazing for homeless people called the big issue where they get paid for doing it or theres also a new scheme where they can work clean rubbish off the streets or clean graffiti etc etc and in return they get a roof over their heads and food in their bellies.
That to me is far better than begging as they have actually stopped feeling sorry for themselves and actually went and done something which everybody has to do and work.

I dont have money to but most of the time i do this also.
i think this is not the good way to give the contribution to society. i think as beggers at road side as become indirectly an organised business as the information i have. if there are real poor. there must be some genuine organisation by which we can help and give the donation so the money should be sent to the real and deserving people.
by just giving money to the begger there is no surety the person is really needy or is a part of the business.
i think cause of these things people dont trust genunie deserving poors.
and i think we must go for the alternate option to help them.

well as I read this post, clearly your sentiments are noted and many of use would share your feelings. As human being with sympathy for the fallen we would all react to this. You must, however, understand that there would always be many circumstances which may lead to such depression. Granted many who are rich a callous to the problem, but still many get to those situation due to lack of good judgment, irresponsibility and plain laziness. You could of course end up like wise if you chose to ignore your life, your right to live and benefit from your hard work and could end up giving all you have to the homeless, and just join those ranks. Surely, you may read this comment and hesitate and even stand back and react defensive, but its very simple, you seem so worried about the problem, and surely must feel its your problem to solve.

One thing you have to understand is right now not everyone has money to give. I have given to homeless people when I can sometimes it's only a dollar or whatever few coins I have. I have also given a homeless person some leftover food when I came back from a picnic. I am having my own problems right now just paying rent. And yes there are some homeless people out there by choice and some who are not. You can't tell and there are some people who sit out there with signs and go home cause they are scamming people. It just depends on people's experience dealing with the homeless. I for one would like to see better programs on where they can go somewhere and get the help they need to get back on their feet. I respect everyone's feelings and there are people who feel that the homeless people are lazy and can work if they can. You are upset about seeing people judge the homeless but aren't you judging these same people? If you can help them and do that's great keep up your hard work. It does mean a lot to them.

The world isn't a kind place, and not all people are honest. I've seen kind people help the homless out around my city, and some of the results weren't exactly preaty. So it goes back to Darwin's theroy, survival of the fittest. Homeless are the way they are for a reason, and we might not know that reason, but regardless of this fact, we have to do what we have to in order to survive.
