Stupid Mistakes

I just got an email from a friend of mine that is absolutely embarassed by the fact that she accidently bounced a check that she wrote to me. Mind you, I'm not upset with her at all about it. However, this got me to thinking, have you ever made a really stupid mistake in your life? What was it and how were you able to resolve it?
Me, I've made a few mistakes in my life. The stupidest thing that I think I've ever done was blowing way too much money at the casino. I needed the money to pay for my bills, but my boyfriend at the time thought that we would be able to make money from the situation. Since then, I've never gone back to the casino without having a specific budget that I was allowed to lose (normally something very small like $40).

Well its human to make mistakes and many of them serve us as lessons. Hope we learn from them, but do we? hence stupid mistakes. One of these days will stop making them and hope before I get a year older. lol

If it weren't for the ability to live and learn I don't think that we would really be able to consider ourselves to be human.

I feel like I've been blessed in that in most situations I am able to learn from the stupid mistakes that I've made in my life.

Hello there, that is great you too have learned from your mistakes. I guess that is what we do, you know? Live and learn, try not to do them over and over again lol.

There's been a few times when I've gotten nervous and said something I wish I'd hadn't said! It's never that damaging-usually about my ex-husband-but I still kick myself later saying why did I tell that person who I didn't really know something that personal!? I feel so stupid!
I can see where you'd get in trouble at a casino though! It's fun and it's hopeful!
At least your friend has made the conscious effort to try and right the wrong by letting you know :)

We are only human and it is in our nature to say things that we later regret saying. Thank you very much for sharing.

If there was no room for us as human beings to improve I don't think that we would be human at all.

the thing that i regret until now is that i resigned from my one and only job when i was still have tons of debts to pay. after a year, i am still a bum. well, the stupid mistake that i did was not finding a job right away, i should have made sure that when i resigned, i have another work right after resignation. i'll never ever do that kind of decision again for the rest of my life.

About five years ago I quit a fairly decent job because the politics of it were too much for me to deal with. However, before I gave notice to my boss I did make sure to secure a different job so that I would not have to go without.

I'm sure I've done a lot of stupid mistakes in my life - ha ha. One of the biggest money blunders I've ever made since you mentioned blowing money. . . well, I was at a bar with a friend once. For a set of drinks, I gave the waitress a $10 tip - thinking she would keep coming back to give us good service. And that she did - she gave us excellent service, but we didn't order much afterwards. Once I got home, I couldn't find my $100 bill that I knew for sure I had in my wallet. I looked through my whole purse and never found it . . . but then in horror I realized that I must have given that waitress a $100 tip - DUH!! It was fairly dark in the bar as it was a bar/dance club . . . so I must have thought the 100 was a 10. No wonder we got good service - ha ha. Not so ha ha at the time. Someone benefited from my mistake - and I guess I learned my lesson to keep a better eye on my money (ah, youth).

Wow, that would most definitely have been a mistake that I would have cried over. But, I do acknowledge that things like that do have a tendency to happen.

At least you aren't blaming someone else for the fact that you'd made a mistake.

Even the $40 is not a small amount for many.
but i think still as you have decided to limit your self is a good thing. in my view the access of any thing is never been a good thing. and if you just pour your money in this way i think you are really loosing a big one

No, $40 is not a small amount for a lot of people, but I seldom gamble anymore so when I do it really is like a special treat to myself. I would like to go visit the casino soon as I haven't been for almost four years, but I don't know if I will be able to get anyone to go with me and I don't want to go alone.

the biggest mistake that i ever made is a spend the money that is intended to pay my school bills.....I know that it is wrong but I really need my money for buying some ingredients for my cooking class.....
After that mistake i realize that i will spend my money wisely and learn how to budget and save money....

Your stupidest mistake and mine are very much the same. I'm sure that you learned a great deal about it just like I've been able to do.

dorannmwin seems like with me it is usually about money too, I had cashed a twenty and the checker had given me a 6ten and ten ones, and cautioned me about the two tens as they were brand new and so was five of the ones, they were sticking together., well I took a cab, and the fare was five dollars and 95 cents, so I thought I was giving the driver 6 ones. but when I got home and counted my change I was missing a ten dollar bill . I tried to get the cab company to tell then that driver Alex somebody had more money than I should have but they sloughed it off saying they could do nothing about now as it was past five well I had called as soon as I got home and it was ten to five, but I did not get any where. but the next time I called that cab company the driver helped
me carry my groceries to my front door, and refused the six ones I held out to him, then surprised me telling me I was owed four more dollars fo next time I called this cab company ask for alex and he would give me a ride free downtown. So it turned out Alex was pretty honest after all.

You are very lucky that it was Alex to whom you made the mistake because I think the majority of people would have acted like they didn't know what had happened and would have pocketed the money.

I do stuff like that on almost a weekly basis... well, not involving a casino or gambling or anything like that... but we aren't always smart with our money. I don't consider it a mistake. Sure sometimes we might wish we had made a different choice, but obviously at the time we thought it was a good idea, and if it were THAT stupid we wouldn't keep doing it over and over. It's sort of become part of our lifestyle, lol. Hey, we're happy and our bills are paid, so why sweat it?

You are exactly right. As long as the bills are paid I don't feel like we as people have a lot to worry about. The priorities in our lives should be shelter, food and transportation.

Oh, too many to count my friend. Too many to count. Where to start, well, frankly, I would just as soon not bring that part of my life back into vivid detail, seeing as what you think, happens. So I think more about the way I want my life to be. So my next stupid mistake, will not be upgrading to a turbo version of my sports car....
Cheers, I appreciate you.

I appreciate the fact that you didn't want to bring out the demons from your past. It is just good to know that we are all human and that everyone does make mistakes throughout their lives.

There has been a few times in my life that i have made silly mistakes as i had not looked at what i had or had not written in the past.First silly mistake was that i had written a cheque and i had forgotten to sign it as at the time i was in too much of a hurry and rushed writing the cheque the second time was i forgot to fill in my bank details right so i had to wait for a payment. So you are not alone.

I wouldn't think that I would be alone. My grandmother used to intentionally send in payment for some of her bills without signing the check so that she would be able to buy herself extra time on getting them paid.

The stupidiest think I ever did was getting so drunk and then I ended up telling all my friends about one of our friends whom I really like so much. It was such a stupid stunt as that person was also there. I think he thinks I'm such a loser that time. It was so embarassing that I just want to disappear the next morning when everyone was teasing me about what happened. They were even teasing me in front of that person. We spent an overnight to one of my friend's rest house. What a shame!

They say that you always get the truth out of someone that is drunk and that sounds like exactly what the situation was here. I hope that you were able to work out things with that person.

Everybody has done some stupid mistakes and I am not ruled out from that:-). Below is the recent one. I used to bid for some items in the online shopping sites even though I don't need them mandatory. Before two weeks I was bidding for a Ipod for $310 and actual cost of the Ipod was $399. But bad luck I won the bid (nobody bidded higher than me, I am so sad) and now I bought that Ipod. My next aim is to sell the Ipod thro' the same site and get rid of my (stupid) mistake. Will see how it goes.

I hope that you have wonderful luck with getting rid of your stupid mistake. I've been trying to stay away from the online auctions because I have a tendency to get caught up in the heat of the moment and I'll end up paying far too much for something because the action is exciting.
