Hello guys, a year ago, a friend of mine posted a topic about how do we type on our computer keyboard or in a typewriter. Do we have to look down to see where we drop our fingers or we already memorized those letters on it by not looking on it instead we would just be looking on our monitor to see if we write correctly...
That was a year ago...
How about now? To those who had problem in typing before, is there any progress or are still looking down on your keyboard while typing...
Just be honest anyway there's no penalty if you are still looking down...he he he

hello daddy mob!
haha, am i that friend? anyways, after a year i think i have improved a little. very little! haha. i can still type fast but still i need to look on the keyboard every now & then, & besides i think i am already used to it. coz whenever i try typing without looking on keys,my work becomes slow!
so for me, i hope one day i can really type a whole post without looking on keys, but since i am a bit lazy i don't really train myself with this...hehe
but atleast i know where to find those keys!
how about you? any improvements?
good day!

I took typing in school many years ago but since I didn't use it I forgot almost everything that I knew, so I took a keyboarding class at the local community college a few years ago. It seemed to come right back to me then, I guess it's like riding a bike.

No I don't have that problem because I learned to type in High School. I have been typing all of my life since then and I'm now in my fiftys. So I don't have to look down which enables me to type really fast. I'm so thankful that I learned to type because I truly do love it.

I was trainer many years ago as a touch typist so I rarely look at the keyboard at all when typing. I learnt where the keys were and the correct fingers to use and my typing speed is still pretty high despite not being exployed as a secretary any more.

I don't look down when I type. When I was little my mom taught me how to type...plus I remember playing Mario teaches typing on our first computer. I average about 70-75 words/minute. Sometimes I do mess up big time but most of the time I don't have to look down or anything like that. The only time I do look down is when I have to do a long strain of numbers because my number keys are at the top and not at the side all together because I am on a laptop.

Hi, mobhomeir. I am guilty! I confess! I am still a look downer. I have been doing this for the longest and it will never stop! I am a much faster typer than I was before. I have noticed this. I can type very fast and still look down. There are some keys that I can find while I am looking at the screen now. It seems that the more that I type, the more that I can feel my way around the keys while looking at the screen.

Nope, I have not mastered the keyboard yet. I can type without looking at the keyboard. I may glance sometimes but I can contain my focus on just the screen and what I am typing. During the times when I have a lot to say and the thoughts flow freely, my fingers would be flying across the board. This also happens when Im pressed for time when I have a deadline to meet.
I would like to really master the keyboard like those who have their hands steady on the hand rest and the fingers are just the ones moving. But my training with typing started with the typewriter wherein the hands are the ones flying across the board because we have to punch in the keys hard enough so that it will get a clear print. With the computer keyboard, we only have to have a soft tapping on the keys and the letters would be on the screen. So I guess the old typewriter typing habits has stayed with me. Its okay with me though.^_^

mobhomeir hi yes I learned touchtyping in high school many years ago and seldom have to look at the key board, but am slower than I used to be.'However if I do not look down I do no make errors but if I look down I will make mistakes as I am used to a blank keyboard and the right hand and finger positions and will do perfectly as long as I do not look at the keyboard. he he he.

Hi Mob,
I am not following the proper way of using the keyboard, but because i am used to typing and using the typewriter before and now the computer--i can type fast without looking at the keyboard on what letter to type or use.
it's helpful if you just type and type--it will be more beneficial to you especially if you are trying your best to reach your goal here in mylot hehehehe!

I still look down the majority of the time. I hate it, as I still misspell things that way. I have been trying to not look lately. It seems that most of the key placement I have memorized, but some of them I always forget, and have to look. I've been doing better.
It is in my opinion that the way I was originally taught, that laminated piece of paper with a keyboard printed on it, was terrible at getting the keys memorized. Although, I do realize at the time keyboards were probably still quite pricey, and the schools couldn't afford dozens of them.
I have one of those ergonomic keyboards, where there is a split in the middle, and using that has seemed to help. I remember just a few years ago I would just peck at the keys with two fingers.

I'm somewhat proud that i can able to type the a bit faster on seeing.I have not trained anywhere so I'm proud of that. There are many people that they can't type fast even they see. They will search for the letters.I also did the same but now I'm feeling it as somewhat better. Now I can able to type some letters without seeing.Due to practise I made that.So I will work more and will become a proper typist.

I type on my keyboard without looking at the keys. Many years ago I bought a book called the RSA Typing and Word Processing Book that teaches you how to do this. I have to look down initially and place my hands in the correct positions to find the keys, but then I can just look up at the screen and type and see errors if I hit the wrong ones - which I occasionaly do! _Derek

I don't know if I responded to your discussion a year ago or not but I do know that I'm a touchtypist and I have learned off by heart where all the keys are located now. I place my fingers on the home keys before I start to type and it's just so much easier rather than having to constantly look down at the keyboard all the time. I would recommend a typing course anyday as it's helped me a lot and it saves a lot of time too when you have to type something quite lengthy. I think that it's a very important skill in today's day and age. Andrew

I am proud to say that I don't look at my keyboard while typing. My national certificate as a data encoder can prove my creadibility. It has been my qualifications why I was hired in my present job.

Well, I am master in keyboard typing. I have not done any training but I can type the words as fest as possible. The only difference between experts and myself. I look at the key board and type the letters where as experts will never see to the keyboard. But I am a good in typing on computer.
