Does your dog respond to what is on television?

My dog Secret barks whenever the television has any animals of them. The animals might be real or cartoon characters. My toddler son likes to watch a kids program about an cartoon style elephant that likes traveling to different places in the world. Then the program shows clips of real animals. I wouldn't be able to watch a dog show or a program trying to improve a dog's behavior. My dog Magic rarely takes any notice. Does your dog respond to what is on television? If so in which way?

That has to be a lot of barking, if it's any time an animal is on. My dog usually only reacts, when I'm watching Dog Whisperer If he hears a dog barking on that show, he'll sit up and stare at the TV. One time the show had newborn puppies on. As soon as he heard the puppies crying, he jumped up, stared at the TV, and kept tilting his head right, left, right, left... so cute He was watching the show the entire time the puppies were on.

That sounds too cute! Especially with your dog twisting and turning his head when the pups were on tv I bet it was cute. My dog pays NO attention to the tv at all!

My dog saffy does not take much notice of what is going on television. She prefers to be in our company and being cuddles and fussed over. Sometimes she hears a bark on television and answers back but usually she does not bother whats going on television. Perhaps she is till a baby and is not interested in boys yet:)

Hi max, this is something that has fascinated me. Some dogs will even go behind the television to look behind, others will just ignore whatever is on. I don't understand, and I don't know if this has ever been investigated. Mike.

I don't have a dog, but several years ago, we were watching the program "Wild Kingdom" and there was a segment dealing with birds. The cat was at attention on a table watching what was going on when, all of a sudden, she jumped and smacked her head on the screen. Being a typical cat, she ignored that and pretended that it didn't happen.

My dog is still very young so he often just plays around or sleep and doesnt really pay attention to the television. The only time he would react is when we force him to watch tv and look at other animals. that's when he would react by barking..

Our old dog totally ignored the TV. But our new puppy hears all of it. We laugh so hard because when there's a dog on the TV he runs around whining trying to find it.

Yes, Sherlock definitely responds to things on television. When a baby cries, even in a commercial, his ears stick up and he barks. When he sees a dog on television (it doesn't have to be barking), he stands at attention and barks at it. He's really pretty responsive to what is on TV, which is bad when you don't want your neighbors to get upset at one's barking dog. But it is also cute as well.

My dog pays no attention to the tv what so ever, BUT at the last job I was working the boss and owner had their 2 dogs in the office at all times! The office was an add on to their house, and if I was working the night shift and I was bored if I turned on the tv and the Dog Whisperer came on the dogs would not stop barking, growling, whining, and jumping at the tv it was too funny!

All dogs ,animals respond to animals on T.V. My puppy knows that it is on TV but can't resist trying to get at a dog that is barking or running. It is just to much for her to just watch..

My dog only seems to respond when there is barking from another dog on TV. She used to really take notice of this when she was younger and get a little confused by it. Now she is 4 years old and just ignores anything like that. I think she has resigned herself to accepting that she does not fully understand it and does not care anymore!

Prissy used to respond whenever a dog barked on television when I first got her. She was just a puppy at the time and she doesn't do this any more. She would just kind of look around and I thought it was so cute, lol! It was around Christmastime when I got her and I remember one time, I was playing a cd of Christmas Music and the version of Jingle Bells where the dogs are barking came on. She started looking around like she was thinking "Where are those barking dogs? LOL! It was so cute! Kathy.

My dog likes to watch animal planet. It doesn't actually have to be dogs on the tv. Any animal will do. It's pretty entertaining. She will lay down right in front of the TV and stare with rapt attention.

My dog Bandit does watch TV and she watches anything. It all started when I got her off the street. She was about 6 months old and when I brought her inside of course I turned the tv on. Her first encounter was eyewitness news and she was watching the weather report. She went through all types of shows. America's funniest animals all I would have to say is Bandit your animals are on and whatever room she was in she would come running. She loved anything with horses. Now she is 10 years old and still lays next to me watching any show that is on. Whether it is cartoons, sports, soap operas, etc. She is a Pit Bull mix and very smart she knows which animals are on by me always saying the word. Sometimes I think she acts more like a kid than a dog. I never had a dog like this before and she is a joy to be around. She has all kinds of adventures.
