If you are being rated does it stay the same.....

I have seen the numbers besides my name increasing rapidly meaning I am responding and posting actively here but my reputation remain at 89 for donkey years now. They are many seniors who exceeded over ten thousand points but still in yellow or red star. I am as puzzled as anybody why there is no movements in the reputation. But those who have just joined in and barely reach 300 points are enjoying their blue stars. Could it be that when one is active here their stars will not go up? Or is the rating system faulty here? I really don't see how they upgrade or degrade a person star rating. I don't mind if my reputation fluctuates but mine seems to be static.

I have no solid proof but I would suspect that the rating system is staggered to encourage you. So when starting off it is relatively easy to fly up the stars but then you get to a certain point where there is a bigger gap between the levels. If this is as I believe it certainly does encourage quality participation by new members as the focus starts to shift from just earning through to becoming a higher starred member. From personal experience I remember it taking absolutely ages to shift between colours, stars etc etc when I got up to an 80.

i have been 94 to 95 for i guess a year. i know i receive positive and also negative. but we can never tell when it will change, no one knows. i even got surprise today when a friend here congratulated me, that at last, he said, i made it in the blue club.

I really have no idea, but i hope Lamby will come up with the right answer. Just be patient. TATA.

My rating has been stagnant at 93 for about 2 years now, that even I myself am feeling a bit curious about how it all works. What I could work out is that it actually takes a number of + votes to get you to the next number (I would assume 10 is the case, since there are people at 95 who are at the 9 star while others at the 10 star ). I think either people are not rating me, or that I am getting almost equal numbers of people rating me + and - . But whatever the case, I tend not to get bogged down by these complicated details; I choose to focus my energy on doing "healthier" things like responding to discussions or doing some housework.....

if you get a lot of positive marking you will rise much less you are very active, get one a very difficult for me especially many.

If you being rated positive, then it will go up, but gradually, as it takes more than one for it to gup, unfortunately. Mine goes up and down like a bouncing rubber ball. I had lost 8 percentag points one night and trying to get it back, and it is coming back but very slowly. I don't know why people will rate others negative, but it happens. Monsly, I think it is because they disagree with you aor you with them, si they rate negative. I don't always agree with everyone either, but I sure don't rate them negative because of it. The ones that do that don't realize they are hurting themselves as well. I really don't worry about my ratings all that much though, as I know it will go up intime, and if it doesn't it isn't a big deal, as it will go up in time. That isn't the mopst important thing here anyway. I came here to have fun, and enjoy myself. Good luck to you and happy mylotting.

Hello christina, Rating is part of the discussion whereas they rate your discussion or comments on responses if they're favorable or not. although the star can change too when some responses that you made in other discussions were deleted, it's still possible that some didn't like your opinion and thus rated you negatively.

When I first receive my star I was a yellow at 88 then after two days it turned red with a 90. From that everyday my star goes up by one until I reached the blue star at 95. From there it was every after two days my star goes up to 97 then suddenly I was happily posting then after a hit on the refresh button I became red with a 93. I was disappointed so I made a discussion about it. I really don't mind the number in it but I was pissed by the color of the star I love my blue star and I worked hard for it then it had gone back to blazing red in a matter of seconds. Now I hope to maintain even just the color blue in my star I don't mind if the number in it will be reduce to zero just as long as it is blue This is what I get in braving the discussions in the religion interest and answering a discussion that says mylot one liner/no brainer discussions gets to be responded the most, of course I disagreed and look what it cost me.

I guess it's an average, so the more times you are rated, the more 'stable' it becomes. I have been on 85 for months and months - it's no big deal as far as I am concerned... I don't think it's an error, it's probably just that your posts are not getting rated much (either way...). I don't rate many posts, so I am not surprised to find my own rating is fairly static. Stay out of controversial discussions if you want to keep your rating (not advice that I actually follow myself)

Your rating is calculated by percentages of your total posting so at your total it would take 10% (20 people rating you to make a difference) I have stayed at the same rating for years as it would take 1,370 rating to make a 10% difference. The lower your numbers the easier it is to change your rating.

Hi, christinawise87. It only goes up or down if you are being rated constantly on myLot. That is when it goes up some more. A member has to rate you for it to go up or down.

Hi christina! I wish I understood the rating system, but after two years I still don't! I had been at 98 for months and then I finally got up to a 99 for about four days and was so happy! And then on the fifth day I went back down to a 98! Now, I know that this may be silly to some people who aren't even at the blue star level, but to me I was so hurt that someone would have negged me to get me back down to the 98! I know that we aren't supposed to take the rating thing personally, but I was a bit upset! I don't know who I could have made angry, but for now on I am just going to try hard not to pay attention to the ratings or I will really get upset and not be doing what I come here to do and that is to have fun and be with my real friends!

i take the ratings game as a sort of challenge, christinawise. even in mylot. but you know, taking this bull by its horn will largely depend on the time available and the current mood i have when the opportunity presents itself. ratings are good way of knowing how one is faring... about your suspicions... there are always parameters for rating and what we could probably do is trust the mylot rating...

yes, if you have been rated positive with a + then your rating must go up, but i don't think only one rate can raise you rank so fast
