Vandals --- would u tell them to stop when u see them on the act of vandalizing?

vandalism on walls - paint writings on building walls seen along the highway

As I pass by places on my way to work or to malls, I often see walls which I suppose were clean ones before these were dirtied with paint drawings and writings. I believe vandalism on these walls is often done under cover of darkness and in times when these places are quiet and deserted. If you caught these vandals on the act of defacing walls or fences, what would you do? Would you tell them to stop what they are doing?

Yes, it is sad to see people ruining anything they can lay their hands on. If i caught them, i will take that spraypaint and chalk on them. TATA.

wall writings - wall writings seen along the road
Hi Saphrina, It is surely a bad thing to deface anything especially if they are not yours. Government properties are usually the ones affected. Even private properties are not spared by these vandals. I admire your bravery. But be sure that he is alone when you confront him. It might harm you doing this especially if they are a gang that you saw. Thanks ... and to Phoenix, too.

hi! Yes, I will also tell them to stop, because I really hate that kind of people, who think all out there, which doesn't belongs to them, must be destroyed or must be painted with some graffiti! I even have done it once, but they were really many and I have to fight, but it was mission impossible. but it will not stop me to do it again if I see some people like that

And what if the next time you encounter the same and you didn't figured that they have weapons? that could have been your first and last encounter with them. as for me, I'd rather gather info by taking their picture and send it to cops for a man hunt.

dirtied wall - wall being dirtied by vandals
Hi Phoenix, I understand how it is for us to see them vandalizing properties. It would be worse when you see them doing it on your own property. That was a courageous yet dangerous act you were doing. I am glad you came out unharmed. You should be careful with these people. Bear in mind that they are capable of vandalizing --- they could also very well hurt people if challenged by what they are doing. Letran: I agree with you. It would be very dangerous to confront them upfront especially if you are alone and they are a gang. Your idea of taking pics is a good one. Their faces should show in the picture so that the police can easily trace them.

I would not take it upon myself to tell them to stop. However, I would call the law and alert them that I saw people painting on the walls. They are equipped to deal with these vandals, after all we're not sure what the vandals will do. It is up to the law enforcement as is, and if they don't see fit to stop the vandals then it is not my duty to act as officer of the law. I would perhaps volunteer to clean the wall up, but I would not put myself, my husband, or anyone at all in danger.

dirty walls - dirty walls seen along the road
Hi SomeCowgirl, I am sure it would be dangerous to confront or tell them to stop vandalizing a wall. Except, perhaps, if they were doing it on my own wall. Like you, I will give the authorities this job of stopping these vandals. We might be doing a good thing for the community for stopping them but if it would put ourselves into great risk and danger, we should put our personal safety a priority.

It depends. If there is a group of these guys, then it wouldn't be a good idea to drive them off on your own. I would call the police or just walk by and see if they will leave when they realize they have been sighted.

Hi Biomechanoid, Confronting a group might be dangerous especially if you are alone. It is a good idea to call the police... I hope they respond quickly to be able to catch them in the act. These guys become dangerous especially if they are many. They are always confident in the force of their number.

Hello, There's also vandalism in my neighborhood. it seemed some one or some groups had vandalized the wall in front of our house, thank god they didn't vandalize the gate. we haven't repainted the place since we wanted to disguise ourselves from crooks to be underestimated to be a poor house. most nice and cool houses here get's robed, including they're renters.

writings on a govt. property - writings seen on a govt. property
Hi Letran, It is sad that this happened to you too. It is an enjoyment to vandals to do this and that is unthinkable to us. There is nothing good derived from that act. It is not easy for owners to repaint big walls and houses especially with the hard times now. But it is one good idea what you did to "disguise".
