how do you know that someone likes you?

My friends at work keep on teasing me with another guy in our office. He's kind of cute, and I'm mildly interested, but not really in an intense kind of way. They all tell me that he's interested in me, but I can't be sure. Sometimes when he's talking to me (about work, mostly) he seems really animated, but then again sometimes it's like I'm talking to a wall. Sometimes he initiates conversations about everyday things, sometimes he just passes me by without the littlest hello. I'm confused. Does he or doesn't he? It's not that I'm really raring to go out with the guy; mostly I'm just curious and want to know how almost everyone in my department thinks that he likes me (or maybe they're just pulling my leg). How can you really tell that someone likes you? What exactly are the surest signs?
(I'm compiling a mental checklist :p )

well maybe his just playing you hot and cold so that you'd feel the way you do.. but if he really likes you more than you like him just keep an open mind let him initiate all the necessary things and dont panic. just give him an accepting attitude that way he'll be more comfortable in expressing himself to you.. but only if you like him.. note, dont let him know you like him a little too much..its usually a major turn off guys likes challenge its a fact

Wow, I didn't know that thing about guys liking challenges. So thanks :) Suffice to say I'm not very equipped in the dating/flirting/relationship department so I really do appreciate the advice :)

My guy Had to tell me. He was friendly and so was I. He found me nice and I found him very nice but I had No idea he was in love with me until he told me.He was very patient. When we met I thought I loved someone else but gradually I fell for him and now we really love each other. So I wish I could tell you to look for this or listen out for that but I can't.

Awww that's so sweet. And he seems like a great guy, if he was that patient and persisted for so long. I've moved on; the guy at my office was transferred to another department at another city. Oh well.

hi. i'm a straight to the point kind of person so if i like a person i would tell him directly. so if someone would say that a guy like me i would ask him directly. but not in a rude way. i usually do it in a teens way. like being so sweet than ask him that question. in this way i won't expect too much.
