Hi Mylotters,
Just curious we have seen many incidents were people voice threats over the internet via their webpage or other sites. I just read where a man placed something on his website because he was having ongoing problems with the IRS. Apparently he made some threats and followed through with them. This happened in Austin Texas.
If someone placed threats on the internet indicating violence toward someone else would you report it or would you just ignore it?

I am kind of reluctant to report anything that I might see on the Internet. A lot of threats on the Internet are just that, threat. People who are blowing hot air, without any intention in following up what they say. There are people who say a lot on the Internet. Maybe only a fraction of it gets followed up. It is really not my place to get involved into such issues. If someone else wants to take what they read on the Internet seriously, good for them. Maybe they have uncovered something that could be dangerous. I will say this, people who threaten violence of the Internet, are not that likely to follow it up. The real dangerous people will be the one's who do it will be no threat, rather it be Internet or otherwise.

I agree with you Megamatt. I tend to mind my own business and wouldnt think anything about a threat on the internet...actually, Id simply switch sites.
But, Ive heard of a story a while back about a young guy who managed to have another kid stopped from attacking a school.

Hi Megamatt and Magical Bubbles I guess I feel a little different. I think that I would report it even if it turned out to be a hoax. I do recall the incident that you are reffering to Magical Bubbles. I think in this case the student had the weapons and was going to really go through with it. I have heard about several plots that have been placed on the internet and it was intercepted because someone reported it.
I would do it because if I could save one live it would be worth it. I try to tell myself those people who could be harm are someone's family members and one of them could be mines or yours.

Depends on the kind of threat that is made. If someone is just blowing off steam or if they show a precalculated plan to destroy. I heard about the man that flew his plane into the IRS building in Texas. Someone probably should of taken warning based on the information that I have heard about this case. I probably would of asked a few questions to people that could of made a difference in this case.

agrant10,
IMO, I would report if I find my out that my friend has a violent agenda which will bring about mass destruction. However, not before I do some one to one personal talking.
I just feel that I have no right to judge anyone and as a friend I would try to make an effort to understand what is happening, and most of all find an amicable solution to his depressing situation.

I think this can be a very serious problem but how and what to react i am not sure.
even if i have got something bad in it, who will listen and whom to approach for this.
i think there are number of things that must be noted before becuase some time it is not as serious as we can assume.

I think it depends on how severe the threat was. If it was regarding some terrorist act or similar to anything like that I would definitely report it. If it was something towards someone they knew and I didn't, I probably wouldn't because I would not know who to contact in that regards. Although, this recent news of violence in Austin, Texas has got me thinking about trying to report any threat of violence I come across over the internet.

Hi agrant! i've heard the news about the plane crash from CNN. It all depends if the incident need to be reported or not because some people enjoy playing tricks or hoax that make others feel unsafe as their very own purpose. We need experts to evaluate if it's true. Once we don't regard it as a first thing to secure our safty, then some guys who fool around all day long may put every single pre-threaning news online so that we may get nightmare all night long. Just believe in God, your very own fate is hold by God.

IN this day and age, if you don't report it, you or someone you love may be killed. Look at the fast food murders, school massacres, etc. You never know where or when violence can strike, so if you get a head's up, it's best to tell. You might be at the post office when someone goes postal, your relatives may be at the fast food joint, people may be at school. If the person is just blowing off steam, that's for the authorities to figure out.
