Well, this evening the roomie wanted to go to Best Buy and driving there we got a good look at the building. Well, I got a good look, she doesn't see that far... It is a mess, if they can fix it, they are probably going to still have to take it down to bare bones, but I would think they are going to have to do a tear down on it. Now, the news we have heard is 1 person unaccounted for and 2 transported to the hospital. 1 was stabilized and transported to the Brooks Burn unit in San Antonio in serious condition and the other would be released after treatment for smoke inhalation. UPDATE: The fire department just announced at 8 p.m. that they have finished the search and came up with 2 bodies, the pilot and the missing person. Joesph Stack apparently set his house on fire before driving to the Georgetown airport. He got into his single engine Cessna and took off and crashed it into the building. He posted a tirade against the IRS before he left. Last we heard the Georgetown airport was still closed while they were investigating the area, making sure he didn't set a bomb in his car. The wife and daughter were seen running from their burning house in the morning and took refuge with a neighbor across the street. So far, all that was accomplished was the man's own death. Now, let me just say, if I were going to go after the IRS I would've gone after the regional office in south Austin, but that's just me... After we left Best Buy we went over to the Barnes and Noble and could smell the remains of the fire - smelled really bad. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100218/ap_on_re_us/us_plane_crash_texas

wow hi elicbxn that man must have been really mentally ill to do all that stuff just because he had a mad on with the IRS, I am glad his wife and daughter made it out of the house safely. Was he trying to kill them? How weird. Its too bad that he had to kill the missing person in his fervor to do away with himself. I am so glad that you and your roomie are safe and sound. hugs from hatley.

You're the first person I've heard from who was near the fire. Wow! That's really something to have a first hand account. It's one thing to hear about it in the media, but it's another thing to hear first hand accounts from the general public. This is the main reason why I like the internet so much.

Well, I'm getting it from the media too, but it is the LOCAL media, not the sound bites from national media

Really, tho if he started the fire when the family was hope is a bit suspect - read a prior response... I looked up the street and it isn't near me, but... it isn't what I'd consider real far either, we do our main shopping near there

The SA newscasts have been full of the news about the man crashing the plane into that building. One station ran a survey asking people whether they considered the event an act of domestic terrorism. What are your thoughts?

I think he HOPED it would be considered one, but really it was the act of an angry and deranged man.

Wow..after the IRS huh? People will do a lot of things when it comes to money. I agree that there must have been a better target.

well, Austin houses one of the IRS regional offices (where the returns are sent) that's where I would attack...
