My youngest daughter woke up on Wednesday morning with croup. The poor baby could barely breath and sounded just like a baby seal. I had to call work to let them know that I had to take my daughter in to see a doctor. After seeing the doctor and diagnosing her croup he gave her a single dose of medication to treat her croup.
How things have changed in medicine. When I was a child I always got croup as well and back then I used to spend days in the Hospital for this same exact condition. I used to have to sleep in ventalin tents and take alot of medication. Now they have mastered it one dose of medication and 24 hours later my little girl was cured. Isn't it amazing how medicine has changed so much over the years?

I remember being put in my brother's crib, with a sheet over it and a vaporizer running. A steam tent. Mom also talked about taking me in the bathroom and running hot water for steam. I remember being sick for weeks and told I had to take it easy.

Yup that was the same thing for me exactly. I always remember it sure used to last a long time and it was never fun. Now just one dose of medication and she was fine by day 2. Medicine is sure getting more and more advanced as time goes on isn,t it. I used to always be kept in ventalin tents at the hospital when I was young.

Wonderful to hear your girl is feeling better! I have a 3 yr old so I know how it feels to watch your little one struggle. When I was a kid my mom used the kettle as well but she also put something called a mustard plaster on my chest. It was some kind of old-fashioned home rememdy that would heat up and stay hot for a long time, unlike a hot water bottle. I guess they hadn't invented heating pads yet!

I remember when I was a child and I used to get croup they also used to try to give me lemon and honey to eat off a teaspoon also. My mother also used to steam me by running hot hot water and placing a towel over my head so that I could breath in the steam. That would also help as well home remedies are still very good to use today. Things sure have changed though when it comes to treatments for these types of illnesses.

I agree. I remember when i was little and got sick with that, big annoyying problem for me, and time consuming for Mom. That was about 25 years ago, and things have come a heck of a long way since then. I think it's wonderful the breakthroughs in medical science, and the ways in which these illnesses can be cured.

I was lucky and never had croup as a child, neither did any of my siblings. My cousins used to get it though. I remember my aunt would make a bed for whoever had it on the bathroom floor and run the shower so the bathroom would be all steamed up. I hope your daughter feels better quick. I sure hope it doesn't feel as bad as it sounds.

my niece also would get croup and they had to boil a kettle in her bedroom and have a water container on the radiator in those days.
