With the advent of computers and the available reading materials online, do you still have the time or find the time to read your books and other research materials?

Hiya MMT, Reading a book can be the most relaxing thing same as being able to listen to Music. I do far more research on the Internet however as there are no Libraries around here we are bit far out. So the two odd books that I can get in English suffices me and I donĀ“t forget my grammar altogether as this is what Spanish all day does to you you forget how to spell in English as Spanish is phonetic and English is not.

Hiya MMT, Everytime I find out something new I get excited and thankful that I have learned something else. I was trying to find out about a British Eurosports Commentator and I found a lot of his Reports and Photos and also he is the Brother of the late Oliver Reed something I would never have guessed. Also I got my Geography wrong when I thought your Country was somewhere else and my Husband who lived in Australia tells me the Philippines are near to Australia. Very confusing this for me but now I have got it all clear where you are.

Hi LAI, Yes, we are always amazed with the vast information there is in reading, whether books or online. I got connected with long time friends by searching through the internet, too. It is such amazing what information one can get being online. Yes, Australia is to our South. When you visit Australia, drop by the Philippines and see our beautiful country!

Hi LAI, Hope you're fine. A good book is like a good music. It all depends on one's choice of relaxation. Both would be better, I guess. I mean, soft nice music background while you relax in a reclining chair reading a book. There is a lot of wonders as you research for things in the internet. Internet is surely a vast field of varied information which makes it enjoyable and exciting as we explore the same.

I believe when reading a book, you find a nice and comfy little spot to relax. Online reading gives me no satisfaction at all. And i am lucky not to have any research to do online. I think it is boring. The only thing i enjoy online is, mylot. TATA.

Reading - We can find a comfortable place and position while reading a book.
Hi Saphrina, That is true. With reading a book, you can do it anywhere where you think you are comfortable. You can put it away anytime you like. You can go back to a page anytime you like, too. These two things you can do without entailing bigger costs of electricity unlike doing it online. It is boring because you stay in one position (sitting) and in one place where the computer is. Books become special to us as they become our personal possessions which we can keep in shelves.

I have to make time for the books that I use for research. I have found that it is not wise to depend solely on the materials found on the internet. Also, most books are not quite as hard on my eyes as the computer.

Hi Bellis, Reference materials and books of this kind are good to keep. They become our personal possessions and are special to us. I am of your opinion that it is not wise to depend materials online. We would be helpless to depend on the internet in times where there are power outages. Although laptops have batteries, they would not last long for extensive researches that we may undertake. The computer monitor strains my eyes over a long period of use.

I loathe the thought of reading books online. Seriously, for me, it's incredibly unnatural; I'd rather have a nice, thick hard copy of one of my favorite books with me. There are some things technology should not be used for, and reading books is at the top of that list.

Hi Coolcoder, Internet may give you a limitless source of things but there are things that it cannot substitute. I also enjoy reading books while I recline on a good comfortable chair. Sometimes, I bring the book to bed and read to make me fall into sleep. I can carry the book anywhere and when I find myself waiting for something, I fill my time with the book. These may be few things we can do with reading actual books that we cannot do with online books.

I seldom get a chance to read books anymore. I love the internet and spend most of my nonproductive time on the pc. It is easier, more relaxing and occasionally, I make a few dollars. The pc is the way to go.

Hi Teamrose, Glad to know of your preference. People choose to do things because of so many reasons. These may be for their comfort, enjoyment or a lot of other reasons. Reading or doing other things online is one way to enjoy or spend time. It would a lot be enjoyable if you earn and learn at the same time.

hi! Yes, I still have time to read my books, because I don't read any e-books- it is harmful for the eyes and I prefer to read real books, paper books, because i want to feel them in my hands and enjoy them. Books are something very special to me and I am keen on them. I love to read and I have rode thousands of books during the years

Hi Phoenix, How nice. I am glad you still find time to read your books. I think that reading books that we have gives us some advantages than reading them online. Online, we are spending electricity and internet connection. Reading the books that we have allows us to be anywhere without getting online. It allows us to read while lying down (which is of course, not advisable, for health reasons), sitting, standing (atimes) or anywhere. Reading books online limits our movements --- we need to sit there with eyes glued to the monitor, which may not be good if done for a long time.

yes, you are absolutely right, and i will always have time for my books, because I really love them and they are an important part of my life too

Absolutely. I am pretty old school in this arena. I like to actually hold the book and turn the pages. I am also a very visual person and so I want to be able to find a spot if I want to go back to it!

Hi Macdingolinger, Well, yes! We may also be able to do this while reading online but it is different with actually handling the book. We can keep a library of books that we have at home. We can place our pencil notations on the pages or mark a page which we want to go back at a quick instance. They become special possessions and can mark them as such. Thanks!

Well there are a lot of books online. And I do admit that quite a bit of my reading can be done online. However, there are times where I do not and cannot read something online. When I lay down, before going to bed, I have to have a nice book to read. That is something that I cannot really duplicate by being on the computer. Sure I could print something off but that would be a waste of ink. Despite the fact that the Internet has consumed a lot of my life, there is still plenty of time for books. Maybe not as much as there had been in the past but I still find myself reading quiet often. Reading a physical book may be rare these days but I doubt it will ever go away.

Hi Megamatt, While the internet may have a varied source of books and other informative materials, there are books that we want to actually hold while assuming a comfortable position and in a choice place. Doing our readings online limits us to the chair we sit. Actually holding a book gives us the liberty to curl up in a bed or in a comfortable chair. It is cheaper, too in terms of the electricity that is used up.

I am still reading books. I have to make time because it is for my future. But for novels, I prefer listening with audiobooks. It relaxes my eyes and also make me sleep. Maybe because I have a story teller like a little child.

Hi Tarapot, It is good to develop the habit of reading books. It is good of you to have that habit. There are a lot of distractions today especially for the young. That is a good way to relax on the way to sleep. You have a mechanical story teller there!

I finally read my first book online. I still love the feel and smell of a good book. It is hard to curl up with a piece of electronics.

Hi TTCCWW, You are right. You can lie down reading a "tangible" book while you cannot do with with one you read online.. Of course, our books at home may be of limited supply. Online, we always find a wide variety of sources. We just have to sit and stay seated while reading online, unlike what you can do with a real tangible book.

Yes. As a mum, I spend a fair amount of time taking my kids places, waiting for them to have lessons, and so on. I suppose I could set up to take my laptop around with me...but it's so much easier to just have a book in the car.
