Howdy blackphantom2979!
Nope, not really a new technology for Apple or for the rest of portable computing technology as concerns. This is actually a revival and a very long time of waiting and speculations of Apple's long time canceled project - the "Newton Technology" or PDF technology. This kind of platform used to revolutionize portable computing was canceled was due to make the consumer not confused and interfere sales between Apple's PDA technology verses their Macbooks and Macintosh line. The project missed its original goals to reinvent personal computing, and then to rewrite contemporary application programming. The Newton project fell victim to project slippage, scope creep, and a growing fear that it would interfere with Macintosh sales. It was reinvented as a PDA platform which would be a complementary Macintosh peripheral instead of a stand-alone computer which might compete with the Macintosh.
The Newton Technology of Apple research and development was started in 1989 and officially ended on February 27, 1998. Co-produced by Sharp Corp. in Japan. The first batch introduction of technology and brand started in 1993 ended in 1989. These platforms are PDA and small subnotebooks. And these are capable of Handwriting Recognition softwares especially with the PDA lines. And also, all are on Newton OS.
Before the cancellation of Newton Inc. or technologies and became Apple's wholly subsidiary company, several months later was Newton's developers reabsorbed by resumed controlled Apple Company, Steve Job. The OS of the iPod was co-developed by the developers of Newton Technologies.
And so, Newton Technologies was the grandfather of Apple's iPod, iPhone and soon to be iPad. Actually, iPad is Apple's second tablet computer but the trends and standards of the 90's are different now and more exciting.
Apple also now promised about the iPad that it will be really different kind of category, and this time its in between Macbooks and iPhones. And much greater. It means what you can do or can't do on Macbooks and iPhones can be done on a iPhone.
Do you think that's greater? If its really greater, I think there is one Apple's technology will be on troubled and missed out and that is the iPod Touch.
Thanks and Enjoy! myLot!
