What is hiding in your cupboards?

It finally happened, a grandchild and her family are setting up house and I got to unload my cupboards that had been storing items saved from my Dad's estate. That was about six years of storage. Not only did I find pots and pans, cups and plates but I also found a mixer that I have been hunting for 20 years, it was neatly stored way in the back. I knew I had brought it from the old house, 20 years ago but I just couldn't find it and was even tempted to buy a new one, but just to stubborn. So now I have it. Cake baking time. What's stored way back in your house?

I clean out cupboards on a regular basis and always find things I had forgotten all about. It’s usually a nice surprise and the item feels like something new especially if I haven’t seen it for years just like your mixer. I enjoy coming across old photographs, letters etc. I particularly love going through my parents’ shed; they have all sorts of stuff stored there. I came across my old school books a while ago and that was fun to read what I had written! Happy baking!

When are you coming to Oregon, you would have a wonderful time going through what we have here, so far it's the left overs from 4 households, where family member took what they wanted and stored the rest in our barn.

Well, we've only been in our house for four years, but with a family of six I can tell you that there are probably things we've been looking for. I know there are tons of emergency candles (we live in a very rural community and you never know when the power will go out) and tools galore. Somewhere in there is the cap to the blender, and last time I went through the cabinet where I keep my measuring cups and spices I found a package of seaweed I planned to use in a beauty regimen LOL On occasion we go through and reorganize, but it never lasts long.

Is it one of those wonderful mixers that are big and heavy and have a rotating plate you can set a bowl on? Those are great! My mom still has one that she bought in the 60's! I have to get a mixer someday, I use a whisk right now and it's not very effective on a lot of things. Since I moved in here nearly 3 years ago, I don't have much cupboard build up. I'm glad you found the mixer!

Hey pat! Isn't always fun to clean cabinets and closets out and find all those things that you knew were there somewhere! I did some major cleaning out two years ago when my boyfriend moved in! He had be throw out so much stuff that my head was spinning! And now I am sorry that I didn't pay closer attention to what exactly I was throwing out! I now am missing some of the things that I did get rid of because he pressured me to just get rid of everything! It isn't that I threw anything really valuable out, it's just things that I could have used and now I'm angry about! I am again getting ready for another clean out, but this time I am going to be alot more careful and not going to listen to him! I am the boss of this place and I will keep what I want no matter what!

I have a lot of my mother's china and flower vases. I like to take them out whenever my husband buys me roses and/or we have tea. Since my mother isn't staying with us anymore, we make use of them just dining. It's great fun and brings great memories as they are antiques of which you cannot find anywhere.

um yeah that would be a very good question. i know there is a book i want, and it's not where i thought it to be. so will have to get round to hunting for it. but don't know where the best place to start will be. it will be most likely in a box of my stuff under everything, or stashed away in the back of a cardboard. it can be amazing what clothes u might find, that have been put away for some reason and u pull them out to have a look on a cleaning up experdidition and find something you've been looking for.

I reckon 20 years must be a record. Happy baking! We have some unpacked boxes from our move 6 months ago. Hubby unpacked one a couple of days ago and found lots of audio tapes I hd been missing. Now I can listen to some wonderful instrumental music while I am writing. I find that soothing or inspiring or both, while when people sing, I have to listen to the words and get distracted.

Well i must say that every now and again i do sort out all my cupboards as i find that there are always cups that have chips out of them the same as some plates and bowls get chipped. At one stage there was no room for anything else to go in my cupboards as they were full of all types of kitchen ware as there was my husband stuff from his house as well as all the things from my house.I am always making sure that all the tins of food are also in date as i am the one that do the bulk shopping.

When I helped my mother pack we found things we do not remember. Like we found another toaster in the kitchen, pots and pans we thought we had thrown out, in the back of the pantry we found a mini pre-lit Christmas tree that I thought was gone when I was a kid. And the item that shocked us the most was a plastic grocery bag of my baby clothes with a note inside. It was from my grand mother, and the clothes were clothes that my mom had left at my grandma's house and my grandma had kept them that whole time, meaning to mail them back, and when she moved in with us when I was a teenager, she brought them along, long forgotten in a box of Christmas decorations. That was crazy, so now I have them, and I think they are in the back of my closet now, in a rubber made tub.

Hello Savypat! Well you need to invite me over for some cake. I love baking also. Im rather good at it but the only thing Im not able to do is "icing", so my cakes taste good but I never manage to make the icing. Bet yours is great!! Ok so as for me and hunting for things. Oh that happens so many times that all my family joke about it. Im always "cleaning" up and moving things around, and then I havent a clue where Ive stashed everything. So, Ive decided to do something about it. Ive been through all my closets and cupboards and Ive put everything in big plastic bins AND its written right in the front of the bins whats inside. Now when I go searching for something, I open the closets doors and read whats inside the bins and then I know exactly WHERE it is.......guess what.....its always in the bottom bin!!! Have fun baking!!
