I thought it's about time I posted another update photo of my current project, The Young Botanist, don't you think? Or are you getting tired of all these updates?

Serious question. Is cross stitch and tapestry the same thing? My mum and aunts used to do tapestry when they were young. My aunt spent 5 years in hospital after the war and stitched dozens of patterns.

Tapestry is a form of weaving. Cross-stitch is embroidering. But I suppose you could call cross-stitch tapestry because you're in a way weaving the thread over the cloth. But you can't call tapestry cross-stitch because you don't weave in XXXs but horizontals...

I kind of knew that I shouldn't have asked the question. Horizontals? You mean that you weave different threads together. I thought that they used a needle and thread and followed a pattern printed onto a piece of backing cloth.

The Young Botanist - My progress on The Young Botanist.
It's about 12"x16"... Seriously, though, I'm glad you asked, as I hit the send button before uploading the pic. It's from a painting by Paul Peel, of a young girl sitting on a beach examining some plant.

I have not heard of this work you are doing. I’ve seen the picture and I must say I am impressed; I could not do anything like that! How long have you been working on it? My late mother in law used to make beautiful cross stitchings. We have one that my daughter will treasurer forever that she made, it has Beatrix Potter pictures and my daughter’s name and date of birth, it’s really lovely. The Young Botanist is coming along beautifully!
