What are your tips and strategies to stretch that dollar and save ur money? Especially with this economy a lot of people have to get smart and innovative. So, wat are your techniques to save some money? Do you clip coupons? Perhaps carpool? Eat fast food? Or shop at the dollar store?

The first thing I do is cut back on the unnessecary luxuries when I am out shopping and such, instead focusing on the bare essentials that I do need
I also search for as many bargains and deals as I can, just to save those extra pennies Every little helps after all.

Well my tips for you to save your money are the following: When it comes to food, you can just cook your favorite dish at home instead of eating on a fast food. Yes gadgets are very hard to resist but you can wait for the gadgets to be on sale so that you can save a little instead of splurging. Yes carpool will be one good idea. Even when it comes to clothes you can shop on a sale and limit it if you have a fixed income.

I do a lot of things to save money. I prefer to walk than paying for transportation when the place is not that far. I save electricity and water that in turn help in preventing global warming. I also avoid shopping and spend for things which are less necessary.

Wise spending will save money, go for quality than quantity.
In our society buying commodities for longer duration costs double than the temporary commodities "Use and throw".
At times use once and throw will save money than repair often and spend many times more than the fixed price of a commodity.
So one should be wise enough to plan well the home economy. Spending is not that much mathematical.
But to avoid waste and unnecessary consumption is within the reach of everyone.
Must be vigilant and watchful while trying to save must not be afraid to invest where there is an opportunity to gain double. Saving must not cause conflict.

I use to clip coupons which saved us so much money. I also use to stockpile which saved even more. I have moved to a smaller space and have to quit trying to put a ton of stuff in a tiny little place. I do still stock on good deal just not as big. If you wanted some great information on hotcouponworld dot com. They have a lot of information on how to save on everything.

save electricity. that way i also save mother nature. in shopping, i would think twice if i would really use this and not just become junk at home. we also reuse, reduce and recycle. we also recycle our water at home. the water we use to wash the dishes is also used to water the plants in the garden. we also plant a few vegetables at home.

For me the first thing to do to save is self discipline and self control. If we know how to know our limitations on expenses and learn on how to stick on it, then we can save :)

Great discussion! I love talking about money mostly because I am a nerd and an accounting analyst - lol! The first thing I do to save money is to make up a budget for the next month. It's basically me telling my money where to go rather than wondering where in the world it went at the end of the month. I list out all my income and expenses. Obviously, things will vary, but there's always flexibility in the budget, and no one is perfect! After I have my budget done, I know what I make and what bills I have. Hopefully when that's all done, I'll have money left over - lol. With the money left over, I usually put some in savings and spend a little on myself. My income can vary each money so on the months where I make less, I have to be a little tighter on the budget. On the months I make more, I don't have to be as disciplined and can splurge a little on myself - ha ha. I don't have much time to clip coupons, but that's another great idea if you have the time. A friend of mine from work said she does this and saves so much money. I don't carpool because I only live four miles from work one-way so I consider myself lucky there! I sometimes eat cheap fast food (off the dollar menu), but mostly I buy cheap groceries and cook at home. That is the cheapest way to go! Spaghetti is super cheap to make and so is mac and cheese! I do shop at the dollar store sometimes too. Take care!

for me, once i get my pay check i immediately budget on how much i would spend each day like food and transportation, and how much i'd save... i also leave an amount for entertainment or clothes or money i'd use if my friends and i would go out. it really takes a lot of self control not to over spend... i have to stick to my budget and not spend more than i earn. ^^

hi wigima!
I save money by buying inexpensive stuff but still are good things to have. I only buy things that I know that is really important like something that would really last a long time and something that I can use everyday. In buying grocery items I choose the ones that has 50% off tags or save more stamps. I also get stubs from fast food chains if they have like a promo or discounted meals that taste good and at the same time would really save me a lot of money. I commute everyday going to work and I save some money on my account which I think is the most important of all. I don't bring my credit card everyday because that would tend me to buy things unexpectedly. haha! Avoiding unnecessary shopping and as much as possible I avoid malls or department stores..hehe!
Happy Lotting!

Since there are only two of us in my family (me and my husband) so I make a lot of casseroles. I cook on Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays. On Sunday I make a big meal. On Mondays and Tuesdays I make casseroles and we can get a few meals out of these. Thursdays my husband and I take a budgeting class at the local college. On Saturdays it is our shopping night so we usually end up going out to eat. We usually get a two for one coupon so this saves us money.
I make a grocery list and stick with it. I have a set budget, but my husband and I are able to always keep under budget. I go to frugal cooking web sites and get easy recipes that do not use too many ingredients. I have a lot of recipes. I also clip coupons and look for ways to save. My best friend and I shop at Sams Club once a month and we each buy things we need and split the cost. We share the items we buy. This has helped both families save money.
My husband and I have an old Fritos canister where we keep our change. At the end of each month we put that change into our checking account.
My husband and I only have one car and this has helped us save money each month. I do buy our snack foods at the dollar store.
I find coupons online.

hi friend, its all depends upon individual ,if one thinks of saving money ,he can reduce his unwanted spending, but at the same time i would suggest not to stop his enjoyment,if ones enjoyment is eating at the fast food, then he can dress his other expenditure, because enjoyment is always needed for our life,we dont know when our life ends,so have to enjoy our life. But savings is also good. the indiviual have to think that if he/she is spending lot in dressing ,food, makeup, electronic things,smoking,drinks..etc...i strongly to suggest them to reduce smoking, drinking and also eating at fast food at often, because these things going to spoil their health and wealth

Very philosophical, I like it. It's a good approach. It is true, u have to weigh the benefits against the positives. I think the trick is to pick healthy foods, and living, but do it in a smart way so u pick up on sales, or cut spending in other ways as to not affect your health and well being.

make a list of the things you will buy and after remove the things that is not really important and necessity... and if you'll be eating in a restaurant make it a habit that you order only the food that you can eat and healthy foods or try to buy some ingredients and cook it yourself... carpool is not necessary, fast food is not also necessary instead of eating outside try cooking and bring it outside... carpool you will enjoy riding a bus just be early for your schedule so that you wont be late...

my hubby is not working right now so saving money is a big thing in our house. we buy our groceries every other week and we eat a lot of low cost meals (like home made soup and pasta) we also have a garden in the summer.
for entertainment, we visit the library and get a great supply of free books and movies. we also belong to freecycle.org and shop at thrift stores. we also ask for and get hand me downs from people to outfit our kids.

I have always been very frugal and I have always saved. Even when I had a job(twenty years ago) I clipped coupons. I buy in bulk when things(like canned vegetables, etc.) are on sale. I never get fast food since it is expensive and unhealthy. I buy things like canned pink salmon when it is on sale and get seven meals for me from one can. I work at home so I don't have to carpool. I keep the thermostat low in Winter and high in Summer to keep bills down. I don't charge anything on my credit card I can't afford and, therefore, I have never paid a single penny in interest to a credit card company since I always pay the monthly bill in full.

wigima5 When I was still working I alway brown bagged it as going out to eat is way too expensive and also making healthy lunches my self eliminates the fast food trap. I really liked what I fixed as I always chose my favorites and made sure they were healthy choices too.sometimes I took healthy choice frozen dinners too as long as they fit into my budget and my calories too.

I am glad you asked, I am an expert on saving.
No, just joking, but I do not like to spend money that I don't have to, and I have been brought up in a household where the idea was to think economically and save money to be able to do fun things for that money.
For example, I bring shopping bags when food shoping, instead of buying a new one everytime I buy food (here the plastic bag costs money). There is a lot to do to save electricity; I don't leave the TV on power save, but turn it off completely or unplug it, over night (a flat screen 42 inch TV takes heaps of electricity, even when turned to power safe mode). I buy big packs of food and cook and make lunch boxes to bring to work instead of buying lunch at a restaurant. I eat leftovers and make sure I use up the veggies and fruit so I don't have to through anything out. I walk or ride my bike to work instead of taking the bus or car.
It is interesting how you write that eating fast food seems to be a money saver. I don't know where you come from, but that is definitely not the case here in Sweden. Here it is always cheaper to buy big packs of meet, veggies or whatever and cook yourself than to buy fast food, or even to buy "ready made" frozen dishes etc.
Good luck with the saving!

Yes i've heard of ppl unplugging stuff. so tats good. its weird how things pull electricity even if they're turned off. tats cool. I would be so tired to go on a bike to school or work. But, tats good for the environment tho.
really? Well here in America, loootss of people who have lower incomes go to fast food restaurants like McDonalds or KFC. There u can buy a hamburger for like $1 and fries for $1. so u could feed a whole family for under $10. Plus its quicker. Whereas if you buy stuff and then cook it, you need to pay a lot more and THEN spend a lot of time to make it. and no "ready made" dishes in the store are more expensive here too. but fast food restaurants are inexpensive.

The best way is to write all your expense down as you pay them. Next time when you come home, every night sit down and write down how much have you spent in that day and on what have spent it on. Do this for at least two weeks and you will start to know where you spend the most money. After that you can draw up how much do earn in a month. When you know exactly where you are spending you can cut down on the areas where you feel it is not needed to spend so much.
When I did this I came to know I was spending to much money on eating out, so I started eating and making food at home. Another expense was on transportation so i started using the public transport where I could avoid a car.

wow, tats really smart. i would'nt have thought of that. but tats an excellent strategy to find out where u spend d most. :D ill try tat sometime. :D well, when i actually buy stuff. im 16 at the time, so i dont really buy stuff. but i do have a log where i put how much and for what ive taken money out or put in and on what date so i don't end up losing track of it n spending too much.

we cook our meals at home rather than eating out. we have a garden, and use the vegetables from it, or shop at the local farmers market, rather than the grocery store. the produce is much cheaper at the farmers market. clipping coupons is great too..i am a member of a coupon trading site, www.afullcup.com. you would be surprised at the coupons that are out there. i have gotten some great finds such as FREE first aid kits, FREE oscar mayer hotdogs, FREE yogurt, FREE ketchup just by using coupons!
