I did this when I was trying to learn Italian and watched both a few Italian movies as well as those such as "The Godfather" which featured scenes in Italian. Like wise what I learned was that I really needed to learn a lot more before I could comfortably understand what they were saying.

When I was living in Italy for the first time I sometimes watched Italian movies. I was studying Italian at a language school, and when I arrived I hardly understood any Italian at all. Mt roommate was an Italian girl and she often watched movies at night. In the beginning I only looked at the pictures, because I didn't understand much of the words, but I still watched the movies in order to learn more. When I had been in Italy for a couple of months I went to the movies with some friends and we watched "Stepmom" in Italian. I understood almost everything and that was a great feeling, because it was so different from the experience I had in the beginning.

The only movies watch in a foreign language is movies with subtitles. When I traveled overseas, of course all the television was in the language of the country. It was interesting watching reruns of shows I had already seen in another language. It didn't help me learn the language, but it was very interesting.
