Stupid people that are actually somewhat smart? Vice versa?

I realized today that even some mildly intelligent people can be complete idiots. So my AP US History teacher is also the basketball coach, and in the middle of class, his smartest player (which I wouldn't dispute) texts him and informs the coach that he won't be at practice due to continuing problems with his signisus. Our teacher asked our class if any of us had ever heard of "signisus". He wrote it on the board and we were like.... wow... sinuses. This was after he successfully trick most of our more than average intelligence class that he was going to do a chapter on the future, but we wouldn't have a test since it would take too long to grade. He keeps track of how many times he can trick us. He got two points for that one.

Some of the dumbest looking people that I've met.. Complete gutter punks .. are actually the smartest people that I know.
I can recall that when I graduated in 1996 (I live in the US by the way) that my class valedictorian still thought there to be only 48 states. Yeah.. I was pretty insulted considering that she applied for many of the same scholarships that I did, and was actually awarded them.
