Should husband and wife share a towel or get one each?

February 19, 2010 9:26pm CST
Hello friends! I came to post this question prompted by what happened earlier today. My better half asked me wether i used his towel which in fact i didn't for the reason that I also have mine. I opted to keep a towel of my own since it would be so wet and loose it's purpose of drying me well whenever we have to share one. There are times though when we have to share one towel only when the need arises but still would prefer keeping one for me and he agrees with that too.I wonder how it is with you?

i was taught in schools to have my own personal effects for hygienic purposes. i have stay that way.i have my own towels, tooth brush, combs and even cups and mugs. i like it that way and so is my significant half. its a win win situation. its our own freewill to choose and come to an understanding. i even have friends who have his and her washrooms. wow.

Hubby and I share a towel. The towel may get a bit wet, but usually it's not bad enough where we can't dry off. I never actually thought of using a different towel when I moved in with him, I always used the towel he used. We even use the same bath poof. We use the same soap from time to time, but it's liquid soap. Either way, we'd use the same bar soap too and have used the same bar soap actually.

Of course, you could always try to take your shower first and then he'd have the wet towel to contend with, oh but that's mean! Our bathroom is smaller so maybe the heat from the shower warms the towel a bit and dries it... Either way, it's a big towel, and I always kind of just rub the towel through my hair just a bit, and then brush it out, so the towel isn't too terribly wet when I finish with it.

Yes, it wouldn't be that all too wet. Within the bathroom , we share almost everything but not the towel(smiles). Oh, I'll try to get rid of the other one today and see how it works lol.

I can't share a towel with anyone. In our house we all have our own towels. I can't imagine sharing because it will usually be wet because the other person used it. Plus its not sanitary to use each others towels.

I agree with you about the towel becoming all too wet. It's uncomfortable using it to dry ourselves.

If they wish to share a towel, then that's all good for them. Myself, personally, would never allow this to happen in my home; as I believe it to be unsanitary.

With ANYONE. Someone could have acquired certain bacteria or parasites, unknowingly, and by sharing a towel, these are transferred from one person to another. Ick!

You mean even with your better half zoey?

Yes it's nice and sweet to share one towel but don't you think it will be too wet and will serve less it's original purpose?

me and my husband share a towel, and we also take a shower together, but since i have a long hair, i would let him use it first before me, just my opinion...

The same thing here. We have three sets of towel. I chose green, my wife blue and my son white towels. Everyone knows which towels are his and which are not. I think all of us need to have personal towels due to hygiene issues.

Hi, dragonangel. Me and my husband share different types of towels. He uses his and I use my own. The only time that we would share the same towels is if it is an emergency.. To me, it is unsanitary to dry off on the same towel if it comes to that.

Well if the husband and wife are cool with sharing towels then i guess its ok but personally i would never do that at my home because i feel its very unsanitary to share towels and other bathroom items like tooth brushes .

It doesn't matter for me if we share towels or not. It really depends on the couple, but I also think your reason is correct. If he already used your towel, so it's soaked wet already, you can not use it until it dries up, otherwise it defeats its purpose of keeping you dry.

Yah,it's nice to share towel together, but like what you have wrote,it's kind of wet already when my husband use it first. And,i don't like the feeling of using a wet towel. It feels cold and can't make me dry that much anymore. So,i prefer to have each one a towel.

I think whenever possible it is better to have your own towel for hygiene reasons. With so many viruses and things going around like swine flu and that most recent vomiting bug going around, spouse or not it lessens your chances of you both being ill. Plus there is nothing worse then getting out of the shower and grabing a damp towel..yuck.

I have my own towels :) Why share if you can each have one ? Since I collects nice towels, I do have plenty at home :) The point is, sharing towel even if some people find romantic, I hate it because then when I want to use it my towel would be all wet and I dont dry very well. But, when we travel or stay over in other people houses where the towel is scarce, then I dont mind sharing towel with my hubby :)

I honestly don't think it's that important. If you want your own towel then use your own towel but if you'd like to share then share! I'd use my boyfriends if I didn't have my own but if I have my own I'd rather use my own warm dry towel.
