What a very interesting thought. I've always thought of things in just the opposite manner. I thought that we would get a special pair of shoes because we are going to be doing something special in our lives. However, now that you've brought it up, I think I can tell where this kind of saying has come from. It almost sounds like something that could have been derived from the story of Cinderella and in that sense it really does make a lot of sense.
