Why do people want an arm and a leg for puppies or to rehome a puppy?

We have been looking for a puppy for our kids. It has to be a smaller breed because that is all that is allowed here. I can not believe how much people are asking. Pugs are 800 a pup. Chihuahuas 945 or a little less. People re-homing smaller breeds want over 150 or more. Now when you get a pup you have to take it to the vet buy stuff for it and all. So people expect these high fees on top of those expenses. That is ridicules even in this economy how it is today. I am just so upset that ever one thinks you should have to pay a fortune for a puppy to get it then all expenses after that too. Is it like this all over? Does anyone know of a good site to find puppies on?

I would ask local shelters if they have some puppies. You may pay small fee and those puppies have already vet check and all necessary shots, so you don't have to pay an extra going to vet clinic. The fee is $50 in most places.

No actually it is 150 for puppies and older dogs are 75 so I am still looking at a huge fee. I would prefer a puppy and I don't see paying 150 or more for one.
